So the Jays acquire a catcher coming off a career high and the Rays acquire one (although via trade) who's udervalued and coming off a down year... SMH

I remember lots of the people in this thread (myself included) wondering what the hell the Reds were doing playing Hanigan over Mesoraco with such regularity. I guess I've learned over the past few years that a .340 OBP (minimum) and plus plus defense isn't something that grows on trees. I look forward to the Rays getting 4 Wins out of Hanigan.

I would have liked Hanigan over Navarro. But I'm not unhappy with Navarro at all.

Hanigan's offensive numbers really sucked this year. But he has shown in the past he can hit a little bit. This is really a steal for the Rays. Pitch framing will continue to be masterful in Tampa.

 

The Rays showed with Molina that they really don't care about offense if their catcher is a positive framer. It really makes sense when you consider how heavily they depend on young pitching. They go a great job of looking at things hollistically.

Yep. They will treat his offense as bonus which is both the right way to approach him and the probable reason why they were willing to meet the Reds price while other teams seemingly weren't.
