Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: Haren to #Dodgers, one year, $10M plus 2015 option that vests at 180 innings. Pending physical. I think AA should have been all over this

I think AA should have been all over this I think Haren wanted to go back and pitch with a team on the west coast. Doubt he would have signed with the Jays at that cost, lets be realistic. Overall, great signing by the Dodgers. Haren pitching in that ballpark should be gold! Perfect fit for him.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Seems like an obvious fit... but nobody picked it in the FAP Contest. I was on the right coast but after San Fran picked up Hudson, I knew it wasn't going to happen for Haren.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Right because the Jays need more aging, overpaid pitchers. Good call. As opposed to emptying the farm? Harden wasn't going to come here anyways, but this is exactly the type of target AA should be on. Nolasco would be ideal.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 That's $13M for the Dodgers as they are 2nd year straight in the luxury tax penalty.

NL pitcher who's been very mediocre save for last year. He's OK and wouldn't cost anything from the farm, but let's be honest the Jays need someone more than an innings eater which is all you can expect from Nolascol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Haren would have been a disaster here. He might do okay in LA. He's gone from a GB guy to a pure FB pitcher...yet his HR to FB rates have continued to rise. Tough to be down on anyone who put up that kind of K/BB ratio though. I like him a lot more than last year when everyone wanted to sign him in Toronto.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Kershaw Ryu Greinke Haren Beckett (is he still alive?) I loathe everything about how that team operates, but that it one filthy rotation. I assume that they will be in on a few Minor league deals in case Beckett is dead. Triple AAA rotation isn't horrible with Lee, Magill, Stripling and Reed set to start there. Fife will probably be the major league swing man. I can see them panicking shortly realizing that they can't trust that great starting staff with such young relievers...and make another League type signing. Despite some huge control issues good teams would love to have Garcia, Withrow, Paco and Kenley at the back of their pen.

Fact is we need guys who can give us innings and Nolasco can do that. He is a solid mid rotation option and would need to be complimented by another upgrade to the rotation.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Pitchers trying to reestablish their value are not signing with the Blue Jays, it's just not smart.
