admin Site Manager Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I thought it would be cool to do a top prospect countdown like that other Jays blog did, forget which one. But we could get you guys to create a top prospect list, 15,20, or 30. And we'll rank the prospects by the votes they got. And you guys could do a small paragraph on each one. Like maybe do the paragraphs after we look at each other's rankings. Like you'll say why xxxx is ranked #Y. But say two guys rank a guy in the low teens, and one of you rank him in the low 20s, you'll write a paragraph why you disagreed with the other two guys. So it's like a little paragraph about the prospect, but it's almost lke a discussion between the three of you as well. What do you guys think? And we could release these every second day to drag it on a bit. Unless we do 30, 60 days to count down might be a little too stretched out.
admin Site Manager Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 I think the best route would be to decide how many you guys want to do. Then create the list. Then after comparing rankings, write your prospect profiles.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 We could pick our consensus top 20 and then Ace could write them all up, if he wants. And then put them out 2 at a time or whatever. I think Ace should write the meat of all of it since that's his forte, but Chris and I could give some input on their profiles and what that means in terms of their chances of working out, etc. Maybe it would be a pretty good list since we have two angles going on. Ace is like our resident youtube scout, and Chris and I are the stat-filter BR couch analysts or whatever
admin Site Manager Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Okay. You guys decide how you want to handle it. I'm sure it'll be good any way it's done.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Bout time. I've had my top 50 done for like a while lol. Maybe we could have a bit of a roundtable. Edited November 28, 2013 by GD

Ace is like our resident youtube scout, and Chris and I are the stat-filter BR couch analysts or whatever I think releasing 30-21, then 20-11, then finally 10-1 is usually a good way to do it. That's how Batter's Box had done it for years, and I pretty much grew up on Batter's Box before all these other Jays blogs showed up . I definitely would like to include more stats based analyses in some of the reports to incorporate Chris and Niks knowledge. For the sake of brevity I eliminated some of that from a couple of my prospects reports, but it certainly strengthens whatever case you're trying to make (like with the whole Dejong swing-and-miss debate). How comfortable are we though referring to stats from MLC? Hurl warned me that they may not always be accurate.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 My current top 20: (a little harder to do 20-30) 1 Stroman 2 Sanchez 3 Osuna 4 Norris 5 Barreto 6 Jiminez 7 Nay 8 Tirado 9 Nolin 10 Davis 11 Robson 12 Smoral 13 Pillar 14 Labourt 15 Pompey 16 Dean 17 Dermody 18 DeJong 19 Lugo 20 Hollon Any notable omissions? Not that I can really notice. Alford, Burns, Smith, Urena? Oh f***, Miguel Castro? Del Rosario? I dunno!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I'm not much of a prospect guy, but I've been keeping a top 50 since the summer. Here it is: 1.) Marcus Stroman 2.) Aaron Sanchez 3.) Roberto Osuna 4.) Daniel Norris 5.) Franklin Barreto 6.) Sean Nolin 7.) Mitchell Nay 8.) DJ Davis 9.) Alberto Tirado 10.) AJ Jimenez 11.) Jacob Brentz 12.) Jairo Labourt 13.) Dawel Lugo 14.) Rowdy Tellez 15.) Clinton Hollon 16.) Dalton Pompey 17.) Matthew Smoral 18.) Kevin Pillar 19.) John Stilson 20.) Andy Burns 21.) Miguel Castro 22.) Thomas Robson 23.) Emilio Guerrero 24.) Zakery Wasilewski 25.) Chase DeJong 26.) Matthew Dean 27.) Jeremy Gabryszwski 28.) Christian Lopes 29.) Dwight Smith, Jr. 30.) Richard Urena 31.) Deck McGuire 32.) Michael De La Cruz 33.) Anthony Alford 34.) Matt Boyd 35.) Matt Dermody 36.) L.B. Dantzler 37.) Javier Avendando 38.) Adonys Cardona 39.) Yefry Del Rosario 40.) Marcus Walden 41.) Brendan Kalfus 42.) Santiago Nessy 43.) Shane Dawson 44.) Ryan Borucki 45.) Griffin Murphy 46.) Dan Jansen 47.) Michael Crouse 48.) Danny Barnes 49.) Justin Jackson 50.) Jacob Anderson
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Who's Smith? I'm blanking and that's a common freaking name. If Smith is someone decent, then Stilson pushes Berti out of the top 30, and probably ends up somewhere around 20 (move De Jong down a bit, Wilson, etc). Probably in the 18-25 range.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Finally threw together a rough list. If Ace comes back from the dead and wants to write up a blog top 20 or so, then I can finalize it. Stroman Sanchez Davis Nay Norris Osuna DeJong Tirado Jimenez Nolin Barreto Smoral Labourt Hollon Lugo Castro Robson Pompey Dean Pillar Smith Jr. Alford Nessy Stilson Dermody Del Rosario Urena Burns Tellez Berti Barnes Wilson Dantzler Ybarra Forget anyone important? Is Goins still prospect eligible? Also, have been pretty sick for the last week or so which is mainly why I haven't pub'd anything. Hard to write a long article.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Nice love for DeJong. I have to move him higher on mine. Rookie ball numbers are just bonkers. I hope they're fairly aggressive with him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I'll do this if we know ace is going to do something with it. Otherwise I can't really be bothered to rank the 10-20 guys. It's kind of fun to re-acquaint yourself with the system, haha. It's definitely a deep system. Very "flat" though - hard to rank guys after the top tier. I think I need to slide Jacob Brentz into my list somewhere. Project lefty that throws mid/high 90's, change and breaking ball flash plus at times...
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Brentz is a must imo. Boyd, maybe. I've actually completely reworked my list and it's still a work in progress, so here. 1.) Marcus Stroman 2.) Aaron Sanchez 3.) Roberto Osuna 4.) Daniel Norris 5.) Franklin Barreto 6.) Mitchell Nay 7.) Sean Nolin 8.) Alberto Tirado 9.) DJ Davis 10.) Miguel Castro 11.) Jairo Labourt 12.) Dawel Lugo 13.) Chase DeJong 14.) AJ Jimenez 15.) Andy Burns 16.) Clinton Hollon 17.) Dalton Pompey 18.) Matthew Smoral 19.) Jacob Brentz 20.) John Stilson 21.) Thomas Robson 22.) Richard Urena 23.) Rowdy Tellez 24.) Emilio Guerrero 25.) Christian Lopes 26.) Dwight Smith, Jr 27.) Shane Dawson 28.) Matt Dermody 29.) Matt Boyd 30.) Jeremy Gabryszwski 31.) Matthew Dean 32.) Zakery Wasilewski 33.) Deck McGuire 34.) Michael De La Cruz 35.) Anthony Alford 36.) L.B. Dantzler 37.) Connor Greene 38.) Adonys Cardona 39.) Kenny Wilson 40.) Javier Avendando 41.) Yefry Del Rosario 42.) Brendan Kalfus 43.) Ryan Borucki 44.) Shane Opitz 45.) Marcus Walden 46.) Brady Dragmire 47.) Griffin Murphy 48.) Michael Crouse 49.) Evan Smith 50.) Jacob Anderson
