DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I can pretty much guarantee you the shark ain't coming to t-dot AA is to scared he'll get ripped on by Perkins for grabbing another national league pitcher. I don't think AA cares what Perkins thinks and I don't think he is afraid to pull the trigger on a deal. That proposed move won't happen because it doesn't help the Jays long term or short term it's just bad.

Everyone wanted Bonifacio gone mid season and he clearly loved him, or his scouts loved him when they acquired him. But he gave in and traded him for squirrel nuts. Now we had JPA last year where he probably wanted to get rid of him deep down inside but the idiot fan boys would have been all over him. Basically hopefully AA doesn't listen to Perkins,Blair,Mccown, the fans who love Ceeb and the toughest one...the beest.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Even though there aren't many miles on his arm.....he's still 40. And when you get into this age area, no matter who you are, you start losing it.....unless you're #25. Yes and no. Would you be surprised if Dickey posted a better season in 2014 compared to 2013?

Expanding deals usually works out sooooo great for us. AA probably trying to figure out how he can jettison Stroman and Sanchez in a single move. #efficiency
GNick Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 What about Homer Bailey instead of Shark?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Nothing funny about it
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Its funny jays are looking for a young catcher I hear there is one in new york who might be really good. I have some nice Gary Sanchez video from my Erie trip. I agree he looks really good.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Jason Parks says Gary Sanchez has makeup issues and isn't a catcher.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yes and no. Would you be surprised if Dickey posted a better season in 2014 compared to 2013? I expect Dickey to have a better year this year .I expect the improvement in the defense will be huge and having his velocity all season will also make a huge difference .
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Jason Parks says Gary Sanchez has makeup issues and isn't a catcher. Best arm for a young catcher I ever seen and........he can hit.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yes and no. Would you be surprised if Dickey posted a better season in 2014 compared to 2013? I wouldn't be surprised. I think he'll be better than in 2013 - his strong second half was very promising. Still the high HR rates are a concern, and I doubt he reclaims any of his 2012 magic. He's not an ace. Though he's definitely capable of being a decent No. 2 starter.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Apparently you haven't seen Alfaro or Hedges. I want Hedges on this team much more than a healthy person should.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yes and no. Would you be surprised if Dickey posted a better season in 2014 compared to 2013? I find it hard to see Dickey giving up more dingerz next year. have to hope less of the contact is 400ft+.

His days of being considered an ace are over. I like him as a 2/3 as he will have days where he just makes lineups look silly and others where he gets teed off. The life of a knuckleballer. Really though, he should see a bit of a rebound year considering his strong second half and the fact that he probably has several years left on that arm.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I find it hard to see Dickey giving up more dingerz next year. have to hope less of the contact is 400ft+. It was throwing the hard knuckle ball high that was the issue he said, he stopped doing it in the second half.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 It was throwing the hard knuckle ball high that was the issue he said, he stopped doing it in the second half. walks and HRs combined really made it ugly at times. I can see him having a solid year next year, but he's not an ace.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I know this rotation is lacking a true ace/No. 1 starter - the Jays haven't had one since Doc was here. Though in reality, I don't think the team needs to acquire a No. 1 next season to contend. In reality, the Jays aren't in any position to acquire an ace like Sale or Price and there aren't any arms out there in free agency. Really this team needs to add two No. 2/3 starters to its rotation and I think the pitching will be fine. You don't need an ace to win the World Series. Just look at Boston this past season. Their rotation just consisted of No. 2/3 types throughout - they never had an elite No. 1 guy. If the Jays could trade for a starter like Homer Bailey or Shark and sign a free agent starter as well, this rotation can be solid.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Huh, why? He's still with the Cubs?! I can see AA making a huge deal with the Reds. Like how he did the Marlins deal getting Reyes along with JJ, taking on MB's contract, Bonafacio etc - he tried to address multiple areas all in one trade. I think you see a huge blockbuster being made that brings Phillips, Bailey and Hanigan to Toronto.

Both teams match up well for a deal.

I'm assuming the deal would have to involve Rasmus going the other way with Bailey in the deal. I could see the Jays having talks with Rasmus about whether or not he wants to sign an extension here. If these talks already happened and Rasmus said he won't sign an extension then I could see him being moved in a deal like this. The Reds need a CF with Choo gone, and Rasmus would fit very well in that ballpark.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Rasmus + Sanchez for Bailey + Phillips + Hanigan might work, bit it's a lot of potential talent we give up. That would look pretty awful after Bailey walks but I could see AA doing it.

IMO an ace tag is earned over an extended period of excellence....a year or two of solid pitching doesn't do it for me.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Don't look at home run numbers, they have no correlation year to year (HR/FB), look at FB numbers (FB%), they have the highest correlation year to year of any rate stat. If that's the case Dickey must've been flashing those "OMG, not another one out" faces his previous years in New York.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I wouldn't have ever tagged him an ace. IMO an ace tag is earned over an extended period of excellence....a year or two of solid pitching doesn't do it for me. That's a valid point. I never expected him to come into our division and be an ace, but I did think he would be better than what he performed. The second half was more in line with what I was hoping to get out of him, so if he can give us something reasonably close to that type of production in 2014, I think that would be fine.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yeah, they make sense as a trade partner, Chappy's been sailing this ship for awhile now. I just hope Rasmus isn't a part of the deal if something like this goes down. I would much rather extend him and move Gose.
