Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Bautista gets a D- at best.
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Izturis... F Pillar..... F Cabrera.. F Romero... F What are you basing your grades on? Lawrie is also rated too high, he only had one good month of August. He has had a terrible year (with the bat) Fs were reserved for only JPA and Boni. Lawrie played great D and was hurt most of the year.
bzapple Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Goins gets an A for Alomar-esque.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Buehrle puts up the same year as Dickey, but gets a full grade higher than him. Okay
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 All reasonable. Too lazy to do this myself. Bautista gets a D- at best. http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7013/6491213611_c4fc290a33_m.jpg
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Buehrle puts up the same year as Dickey, but gets a full grade higher than him. Okay Expectations...
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 theblujay, Izturis was the worst player in baseball this year (at -2.1 WAR)... if he's not an F nobody is. Here's what really happened (expectations factored in). Percentage marks for increased precision. Rasmus: 92 Edwin: 87 Cecil: 84 Kawasaki: 84 Lind: 83 Loup: 82 Redmond: 81 Sierra: 81 Delabar: 80 Wagner: 80 ------------ Buehrle: 79 Bautista: 74 Janssen: 73 ------------ Santos: 69 Rogers: 64 J. Perez: 64 Lawrie: 60 ------------ Davis: 59 DeRosa: 58 McGowan: 58 Happ: 58 Pillar: 52 Germano: 52 Jenkins: 50 ------------ Dickey: 46 Gose: 45 Ortiz: 42 Goins: 41 Blanco: 36 Morrow: 31 Wang: 30 Jeffress: 30 Lincoln: 29 Weber: 29 Oliver: 28 Nolin: 28 Thole: 27 Storey: 27 Melky: 25 Romero: 18 Bush: 15 Gonzalez:14 Johnson: 11 Boni: 8 Laffey: 4 Arencibia: 1 Izturis: 0 INCOMPLETE: L. Perez, Drabek, Hutchison That's a lot of players below 50.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I figured it was % of projected WAR accumulated. Someone should do that. Not me though. Someone with work ethic lol.
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 family slogan? You remind me of Spanky. Nothing to add, just ignoring the thread and looking to attack.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I ended up using WAI (Wins Above Izturis) to get rid of negatives. Normalizing to Izturis, I like it! Along with the Arencibia Line, WAI should become a thing.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Buehrle puts up the same year as Dickey, but gets a full grade higher than him. Okay buehrle was expected to be a 3/4 slot guy, not an ace. higher expectations
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I just really, really strongly disagree with those. Like passionately. Intensely. Vehemently.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I figured it was % of projected WAR accumulated. Someone should do that. Not me though. Someone with work ethic lol. The board should start grooming kids for GM... lot of luck involved so we'd need 10 or more lottery tickets. Train them for their first internship in a few years, then go from there. Since you have no work ethic you will have to be groomed for Beeston's President position. "Who is Gordie Dougie?? Why is he president of the Toronto Blue Jays?? Does he ever show up for work??" It will be like the Bilderburg group. Shadowy board members will really be in control. Maybe we could get the real Bilderburg group involved. Argue that the kids in Canada are going to rebel unless they get some winning sports teams to distract them.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 LOL I think that's the first Olerud363 post I've ever truly enjoyed.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) I dunno Jonn, I think you're maybe setting the bar a bit too high. Not every player needs to be Kershaw or Trout. Those are A++ players. I'd grade the majority of the players 1/2 a letter grade higher than you did, and several of them (Lind, Dickey and Reyes especially, though I see you sort of awkwardly lumped him with Kawasaki) a full grade higher. CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I ended up using WAI (Wins Above Izturis) to get rid of negatives. ZiPS was projection source... J.P. Arencibia 0.38 JP is probably going to take this number into his arbitration case.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I think he's doing the opposite! Bar is set too low. Would you really give Melky, Boni and Izturis passing grades? It would have been difficult for them to perform any worse and they ended up sapping the team's offense for the entire first half. D grades may seem low in comparison to others... but they're still a "pass". If your season has been a complete and utter failure, you "failed" and get an F. The only absolute F's for me are Bonifacio, JPA and Josh Johnson (I'm being nice to Morrow cause it's hard to grade such an absentee) The other relatively bad years are D at worst What's league average? I'm thinking C. That's about how school grades work out I think.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 So if you were the teacher of a course that had the 2013 Blue Jays season as the curriculum... you'd give Izturis a passing grade? He put up -2.1 WAR, worst in the Majors! Somehow I forgot about him... He was VERY forgettable. Hahaha.
mitchf Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Morrow, 5.42 FIP/4.49 xFIP. Arm fell off after 50 innings. Josh Johnson, 4.62 FIP/ 3.58 xFIP. His fastball is officially 0.9 MPH above league average, which doesn't exactly warrant much praise. JA Happ reassured me that Alex and Co. lost their minds last trade deadline. Not his fault, he performed as expected. RA Dickey and the magical contract we traded for looks to be feeling the effects of 38 years of age. 2 MPH dip in Knuckleball velocity? Consider me a pessimist going forward. Maicer Izturis seems to have lost all interest in staying in shape/playing defense. I attribute this to being a Blue Jay. Melky Cabrera who was signed for $2 million per WAR this offseason, looked worse than Henry Blanco on the base paths. He's also a recovering steroid abuser. Anthony Gose reassured everybody that he can't hit and since our team doesn't value defense, he's not much for the Blue Jays. Brett Lawrie kind of sucks. Blame Mark DeRosa if you'd like though. It was his responsibility to keep Lawrie in check, he just couldn't do it, . Jose Bautista is officially approaching age regression territory. We had Corey Patterson and Eric Thames batting ahead of him for his best two seasons here, . On the contrary, Edwin is f***ing awesome. Reyes is great to have batting ahead of our 3/4. Colby was outstanding, but we all know this can be taken with a grain of salt the minute 2014 starts. Delabar and Cecil are fun to watch, but also volatile relievers. Hutch will be back next year. Our attendance went up despite one of our worst years in the last decade. We no longer have to hear Stadium Love or be part of #LoveThisTeam. AA is on his last legs and we are only 1 year away from the inevitable GM switch.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I forgot a D- was a passing grade in the Canadian school system. I was always in a scholarship program where C+ was the minimum passing grade. I would consider anything below C+ really bad. I would too. Passing grade or not, if I got a C in high school I would have been down right embarrassed. I don't think many of your grades were too far off.
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Kinda redundant Good one!
Jay Train Verified Member Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 If you ignore the injury do you still consider Reyes' performance disappointing?
