Some writer trying to make something of nothing.

I can find you more writers if you'd like. Mahomes was also asked about it and I'm disappointed that he didn't shut it down. People didn't believe in Lamar as a passer because he wasn't a good passer (that perception is being challenged in a big way right now, btw). People didn't believe in Kyler Murray because he always collapses in the second half. People didn't believe in Jalen Hurts because he seemed like a discount Lamar Jackson, to which a lot of people are changing their minds, including me. The Eagles are scary. Patrick Mahomes is almost unanimously chosen as the best QB in the game. It's wrong, but it's the case.

Where is the racism? Some guy said that Mahomes plays like he's playing street ball? I don't even know how that's an insult.

If Kirk Cousins were black he’d definitely get tons of articles of this nature just about him alone

Kirk Cousins, who is currently mocked constantly and cited as the key reason a talented Vikings team will never accomplish anything? I'm pretty sure he's s*** on constantly as it is.

Yes but the point is, if he were black the narrative by lib writers would be he’s questioned bc he’s black and therefore is subject to additional scrutiny. A victim.

I thought the first post made it clear what I was suggesting

Like if you suggest Lamar is holding the Ravens back, it’s somehow systematic racism. CRT

But you can say same about Cousins and nobody blinks

It's kind of sad now that this PC woke culture has moved into sports. What is wrong with criticizing a player? Like its sad now its come to this, where you can't criticize or make a statement regarding certain players due to their skin colour or else its seen as racism. C'mon!

People didn't believe in Tom Brady when he was drafted in Round 6 or when he was a backup to Bledsoe early in his career. A lot of players across every sport are written off early or criticized about some certain aspect in their game. That's sports lmao!

Mahomes is probably one of the best QBs in the game today, won't argue that. Though I understand your argument how he "unanimously chosen" as the best QB by the woke sports media. You can still make the case for Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen etc. Lets say if Josh Allen leads the Bills to a Superbowl this season, what is wrong with calling him the best QB in the game?

I dunno lol

streetball part is a bit much

Josh Allen is well on his way to MVP this season.

Of course you’re triggered by the word as a lib. We know what’s meant by it. Every word doesn’t need to be deleted from the English language.

I mean you can’t use the term in the NBA say? Geez

I don't care at all

I am just putting myself in the shoes of the people who do care. Their reactions are obvious, expected.

Like, if you are black and you like football you see a generation of black quarterbacks taking hold for sort of the first time ever and then you see some anonymous guy criticize the best of them for being too "streetball"

c'mon

lmao

It boils down to a sensitivity thing, nothing racist. A non-racist can use that terminology and it doesn’t mean “I hate black people”. Next thing “playground” will also be a trigger word, if it isn’t already idk

It comes down to how people interpret a certain word. Using the word "Streetball" isn't racist at all. Though some people might associate the term with only a certain color of people and with playing in the ghettos.

Even as a kid, myself I played streetball whether it was basketball, road hockey, touch football etc. That's what streetball is haha. When I hear the word streetball, I associate the term with unorganized sports/free-for-all. Whereas you play in a league, with coaches and training, it's more organized in terms of the way you play. Like for example, some kids on my school basketball team when it came to playing organized basketball with a team, running through plays, playing with a ref, couldn't do it. They couldn't follow a structure, call certain plays etc. Whereas when we played at recess or after school casually, with no rules, no coaching etc., some of those kids just dominated. Had nothing to do with skin color.

So when I hear the term "streetball" being used in professional sports, it's more describing a player doing his/her own things, not following the structure/play/coach instructions etc.

Dunno what you're talking about. I never played street hockey or basketball. Only black people do that.

That people who do care are morons in constant search of racism to sate their never ending bloodlust.

Even granting the ridiculous racism angle, it was one guy. This is the face of the league, making half a billion dollars over the next decade, from the team perpetually favoured because of HIM.

Mike Vick murdered puppies and they still brought him back. DeShaun Watson sexually predated on women and got the most guaranteed money ever. Kyler Murray has done precisely f*** all and he's going to be making more money than Josh Allen, and he'll continue doing f*** all since he thinks he's a visionary and doesn't need to watch film. Lamar Jackson might end up making more than all of them and has been overrated for years. The notion that there's any type of "systemic racism" in this scenario is so mind numbingly stupid.

I don't disagree with you

But there is some merit to the "coded racist language" angle

even though it is of course one anon and the media cherry-picked it to create the narrative in that article

like you don't see scrappy white QBs ever described as streetballers

Same thing has been said about QBs like Baker Mayfield.

An offensive coach is also not sold on the impact that new head coach Kevin Stefanski will have on Mayfield:

“I think Kevin Stefanski will help Mayfield, but there is a risk Kevin will be so like he was in Minnesota — so close to the vest — that Mayfield’s creativity might not show up. There is a fine balance there. Mayfield is a three that needs to understand how to play quarterback better than just going back and playing street ball.”

The NFL has done a really poor job when handling these situations. Punishments should be more severe. Nobody ever talks about it.

If a white sports commentator goes on ESPN and says Lamar Jackson or Kyle Murray are overrated, you'll have Twitter and the woke mob up in arms. It's sad these days that you can't criticize or asses a player anymore based on their skin colour. Say one negative thing about Lamar Jackson and you're seen as a racist.

yeah but Baker Mayfield is an honorary black because he got arrested that one time

Meh, public intoxication... the whitest crime ever. Call me when it's domectic abuse, rape, or murder.

Not sure, this is what I was able to find:

"According to the arrest report, an officer was flagged down by an individual yelling at Mayfield. The quarterback, dressed in a gray hoodie stained with soy sauce, was told to stay at the scene by the officer, but then began, “yelling profanities and causing a scene.” When Mayfield tried to leave the scene, he was subsequently chased down and arrested by officers. Dash cam video of the arrest released March 10 shows Mayfield getting tackled into a wall by police."

argument on the street while drunk. I think we've all been there. Hell, Spanky has probably been there a few times this week, except the street is his living room and the other guy was a plant.

Haha love the detail included! Soy sauce stains can be annoying!

I literally hear Josh Allen described as a "backyard" QB. When I hear "street ball" I think that he's playing in an entertaining way. Honestly, in the way he plays, I can see how someone would come to say that. Maybe this was just an insult from some salty bitch who missed out on a chance to draft him, I dunno, but EVERY athlete has his or her detractors, and sorry but I just don't see coded racist language there. Maybe I'm too unhip to see it, I just don't understand the inherent link between black people and street ball. If it's going for the "growing up in the ghetto" thing, that doesn't even make sense because Mahomes' dad was an MLB pitcher and he grew up very well off.

I'm willing to get educated. Maybe this was a coded racist comment that I don't understand. Even if it was, the overwhelming majority of people think (wrongly) that Mahomes is the best QB in football. I even encountered a gentle he/him on Twitter dot com who asserted that if you don't think Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL, you either don't know anything about football, or you're a racist. Only those two options. I'm sure I don't need to do a deep delve to assert that he's not even close to the only dipshit to think this way. I'm a Bills fan. I love Josh Allen. I think Josh Allen is the most physically gifted QB of all time, and even though Mahomes has achieved more, I believe Allen is as good, or better than Mahomes right now. Does this make me a racist, or a person with a slightly homerish take who really enjoys Allen's style of play and personality?

I hate it. Mahomes is going to go down as an all time great. Everyone knows this. I just don't know why we have to insert what is essentially phantom racism. And deep, deep down, I like Mahomes. When the Bills beat themselves in the playoffs last year, Mahomes took a timeout on celebrating with his teammates and ran nearly the length of the field to find Allen to give him a hug. He's fantastic. This is our Brady/Manning, and I would like to appreciate this special time in football for what it is.

Sorry if I rambled or went on weird tangents. I'm tired and haven't had my morning red bull yet

And let's be fair to Lamar Jackson...I've thought he's as overrated as passers get but so far this season he's been pinpoint accurate. I don't know if it will continue, but none of the criticism of him ever had to do with skin colour. It had to do with Baltimore, in 2020 and 2021, literally finishing 32/32 in passing offense. Everyone is quick to blame anyone other than Lamar but you have black former players on ESPN and FS1 saying openly that if Lamar is going to take that next step, he needs to be able to consistently make throws from the pocket. Now he's kinda scary because it appears that he's figured out how to do that.

Kyler Murray can be super fun to watch, but a 45 million dollar QB he is not. I can only imagine Activision is thrilled with the upcoming spike in microtransactions when the next CoD comes out.
