jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Why, what would that change? Please enlighten us as to how that game's outcome had anything to do with McDermott's shortcomings. If you're going to bring up the fake punt, bad result doesn't equal bad process. Likely a shakeup is coming in the next couple of weeks. This Bills teams despite its talent has kind of underachieved over the last several seasons, especially in the Playoffs. They couldn't even beat a Kansas City team that looked bad and vulnerable this season at home! Team played really sloppy earlier this season and most of last season. I couldn't care if they keep or get rid of McDermott. If they went a different direction in regards to their head coach, wouldn't be opposed to it.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 We shall soon see if the Lions are a team who blew their load too early in the game or the real deal. Great football so far today.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 Yup, Lions blew their load first half. You have to catch the ball and hold on to the ball (no turnovers) in the big game. There were also a few missed passes by Goff in key situations. Most of them were the receivers not fnnn catching the ball on a 4th down or 3rd down conversion.

If you bet the Lions money line before the game, they were 4 to 1 and you got an early pay out since they were up by 17 pts. Double dipped and put some money on San Fran in the 3rd quarter when they were down 2 touchdowns and were pay 5 to 1.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 2 huge turnovers in each game that were the difference. Lions could've put the Niners away on those kicks but it killed them not scoring. Good games, though. Purdy was pretty epic after that lucky bounce for Aiyuk.

Yeah they were up 24-10 I believe at that point in the third quarter. Should have taken the points. Campbell is a hot head and I said that to others heading into this game that he could screw things up for them. If the Lions kicked those two FGS, they win 37-34 and the 49ers on each of those drives start at least at the 25 yard line, instead of further up.

This is somewhat equivalent to playoff baseball with teams that pull starters early and lean on their bullpen and another example of judging results instead of the process. So easy to blame then when it fails, but they played that aggressive style all season long and it's what helped get them there. It was part of their mindset. If they succeed (which they did a lot this year), they'd have won. You also have to factor in the possibility their kicker misses. Here's an article suggesting he didn't do anything wrong, with numbers to support it - https://www.nbcsports.com/fantasy/football/news/dan-campbell-did-nothing-wrong It would have been really nice to see Detroit make the Super Bowl. Love seeing new teams get a chance to win it all. Edited January 29, 2024 by Brownie19

It's really easy to just take the missed kick opportunities and just add it to the score, but in reality the game would have been played differently.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 I know he's not a favourite on here by some (Boxy and Spanky specifically lol), but after watching the Super Bowl yesterday, you can never bet against the more experienced quarterback in the big game like Patrick Mahomes. Even with the 49ers up by a field goal before the end of the game, and up a field goal in OT, you saw how cool and collected Patrick Mahomes was in those moments like he was just playing backyard football. You got the sense he was going to drive the ball down field and score. Chiefs had a tough schedule: beat both the Bills and Ravens on the road to get to Las Vegas. Pretty remarkable for Kansas City to win two years in a row. Mahomes definitely has cemented himself more as one of the NFL's best quarterbacks, whether you like his style of play or not.

The only thing cemented here is that I hate football
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 I think one thing that went unnoticed yesterday is how great the KC coaching was, especially the defense. At the end of the 4th if SF got a first down they would have won the game pretty much and Spagnuolo brought pressure which forced an incompletion and FG. Mahomes was great but SF had lots of chances to win and screwed up.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 (edited) Should have doubled down my bet on the Chiefs when they were down by 10 points That's when they play their best Edited February 13, 2024 by G-Snarls

I don't mind Mahomes, he's a big game guy?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2024 Posted February 14, 2024 He made me $100 richer I bet KC when they were 3 to 1 and down only a TD. Really wanted the 49ers to win, but saw in-game the Chiefs were the best bet.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 A 6th for Fields seems pretty brutal. I guess I can’t remember anytime a team traded a young QB and really regretted it though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 A 6th for Fields seems pretty brutal. I guess I can’t remember anytime a team traded a young QB and really regretted it though. I think Fields is a lot better than he gets credit for. Now they have made a very comfy environment for Williams/Maye/Daniels to come in and succeed right away with DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, D'Andre Swift and Gerald Everett, behind a pretty decent OL. Fields got kind of a raw deal, but unfortunately he didn't end up anywhere better. Also, example of team trading a young QB and regretting it? Cleveland Browns with Baker Mayfield, probably. It is rare, though.

The Gabe Davis deal made me laugh. Good luck with that. Imo Mack Hollins is basically the same player but faster, bigger and better on ST, and he cost less than 3 million. Saquon deal was absolutely bananas. This is another example of why I think Howie Roseman isn't nearly the genius people think he is, and that's after giving Jalen Hurts that insane contract. KC bringing in Marquise Brown was a good move but Mahomes can't throw deep to save his life so that's a bit of a waste, love Curtis Samuel to Buffalo and the Texans are quietly having a monster offseason. They are gonna be trouble.
