2018 at latest. The Argos lease has an out clause. The grass could be in by 2015. Think of it this way, if TMLSE buy the Argos, BMO will get 9,000 extra seats and be lengthened and the Argos will move quickly. Of they have to build their own stadium, it'll be 2018.

This would screw TFC, the field would be completely destroyed for most of their games. They can't possibly afford to alienate their fan base any more, especially after their last few moves (Silva, Payne, Urruti saga).

What they aren't saying yet is that when they drop the floor lower, they will go down more than what is just needed to put in grass. They will go low enough to allow the seats to move without tearing up the grass and for about 12,000 extra seats when configured for NFL. The Bills deal will dump the pre-season game but might even add a second regular season tilt. The Bills will be staying and the facility will still be able to accommodate a Grey Cup.

The Argos do not intend to play on grass. The reno, though ambitious, would include a rolling artificial turf that would go over the grass field. Not sure if it would be like what they do in Arizona for Football or something lower tech.

TFC wants grass, I believe, and a turf would probably hurt that.

Just get the Argos their own damn stadium. Find somewhere, anywhere else lol.

I couldn't tell you if it would or wouldn't. I was of the impression that BMO was out and then the talk of TMLSE getting involved with the Argos came up.

Just gut Lamport Stadium and rebuild/ renovate. The area is taking off and parkades could be built at the south end for added parking. The land space is sufficient to tuck the Argos in there with a cozy 33,000 seat facility.

Good design could save this project. I personally feel that if it's done right it will be better for the Jays, TFC, and Argos. If it's done poorly it will probably kill both the CFL and MLS in T.O. though.

I'd love to see something downtown collaborating with U of T, similar to what the Alouettes have at McGill.

Definitely agree. Not worth the risk imo.

Well McGill gets 15-20 thousand fans a game and U of T draws less than 300 fans per game.

When was the last time they had a winning season? If U of T cared about football and made an effort to build a good program they would slowly grow a fan base. A nicer stadium would help as well.

U of T had like a 45 game losing streak not too long ago...

That being said, no football team in Toronto is going to get good attendance unless they play in the NFL.

About 15 years ago I went to the supposed last ever football game at Varsity. They gave out souvenir scrolls on the history of Varsity, the game got huge media push, the tickets were like $5 and not only were U of T good then, they were playing York. Maybe and I mean maybe 800 people showed. I was disappointed.
