About the "hivemind", well maybe you can't see it because you're a part of it, but on this board any view/opinion that opposing using advanced stats is instantly shot down by everyone. Someone people don't even read the posts, they just hop on board once they see one of the well-known posters shoot someone down. A lot of the time its that immature one word response such as "ban" "lol" "no" "troll".

 

There might be more casuals outside of this board, but this place is pretty bad if your not a SABR crazed stathead.

Batting average is a bad stat because there are better indicators of offensive contribution that are equally accessible. That's it. It really is that simple.

 

That doesn't make it bad/useless/not important. That just means that some guys plugged average into some fancy equations and came up with new numbers. Getting hits is still the most important thing in the game. (For offense)

I think what's going on in this thread, is we are trying to temper expectations. There's nothing more f***ing annoying than Gruber blowing his load over Goins, a player he probably didnt even know the name of 2 weeks ago. Goins is a 25 year old non prospect, who's filling in for injury. He's not a "solution" to 2B. He's good AAA depth, and he might be a decent bench player. That's all there f***ing is to it, God.

 

For f***s sake, he's been compared to Alomar in this thread.
