Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Great thread. The closest to stardom that Goins has been.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 If Goins can keep this up for the rest of the year I am fine with him starting next season and using the money for starting pitching.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Is his name actually pronounced Go-ins. Not Goins? (Rhyming with coins). That's disappointing to me for some reason.
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Like what I see so far. The defense is good and not subject to SSS.

How does it save money as Izturis is being paid anyway...this theory only works for those that seriously think we are going out and getting a top 2B.
Convo Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 The reason Goins seems good is because he's been absolutely flawless at 2B and we haven't seen that all year. His crazy high BABIP may be helping his case as well.
The_DH Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I was paying attention to his defense tonight. Most impressive.

Me too. I was pronouncing it wrong until tonight when I heard Wilner get all punny and called him a "goin concern".

The_DH Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Yep, we've seen some lousy baseball.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I'm legitimately worried this is going to become a Eric Thames situation Honestly, you probably should be worried.
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Lol some serious haters around here.. if you don't agree with them then you become a casual fan Dont disturb the hive mind
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 There's literally zero chance that Gose or Goins become solid everyday players because they will never hit because they had a bad wRC+ at AAA.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 And as far as he goes, he's looked pretty solid defensively, but his career minor league stats are pretty blah. And he's like 25, so he's even not really that young for a prospect. He likely won't hit enough. But at least it seems he has some D, unlike Thames
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 There's literally zero chance that Gose or Goins become solid everyday players because they will never hit because they had a bad wRC+ at AAA. Its not about AAA, its about skill or/and tools. Goins is nothing, everybody knows that.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Most annoying time of year when it comes to stupid fans overreacting to meaningless samples: August/September or spring training? I still go with Spring Training, but add in April for the minors ala Jim Negrych.
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Most annoying time of year when it comes to stupid fans overreacting to meaningless samples: August/September or spring training? Well there's nothing better to do with this team once we get to August
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Apparently this (bold) is not true The majority would agree its true. Even some who haven't seen him play.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 This isn't about Goins anymore. It's about the message board clique. Douchecanoes like BTS, Hurl, Dinger, Nox, Boxy, KSaw, and NJH just think they're so f***ing cool....

theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 ???? Angrioter said "majority of the fans know Goins is nothing" Clearly this isn't true, because I have seem him penciled in as 2B many times for next year The "non-casuals" on this board almost completely agree that Goins is nothing.
theblujay Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 89 wRC+ as a 25 year old in AAA But lets pencil him as 2B next year because of SSSSSSSSSSSS in meaningless end of the season games Never said that...Just don't want to give up on him so fast
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Yeah, spring is probably worse. I think things are so bad this year because the team sucks and, Lawrie aside, all of our young talent is marginal. Sierra shouldn't be on a pro roster, Goins and Pillar will be bench players at best, and even Gose is looking pretty busty. Hardcore fans want to see young talent when their team is out of it, and they're going to be optimistic about that young talent. Unfortunately that talent sucks this year. A silver lining to his suckitude?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Look no further than Pillar to see an exact opposite case.. played well in the minors and totally cannot play MLB..I think character difference comes into play here.. there's no stat to measure that.. either you have it or you don't.. I think players like drabek and gose are mentally fragile as opposed to guys like hutch and possibly this goins character.. I believe confidence plays a big role on how things translate into MLB coming from the minors Yeah, we could totally lose our s*** over a 10 game sample, or we could be rational human beings and you know...not. Pillar has a .222 BABIP. Ryan Goins has a .500 BABIP. Clearly Goins is better at "character difference-ing" the ball into holes.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 The same place where people thought Jake Marisnick was the next Micky Mantle. Jake Marisnick is WAAY more handsome than Mickey Mantle. What an insulting comparison.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Ipad out the window The only place it should go.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I just noticed earlier today that you're carrying Pillar in the DDL. I lol'd. I dropped him. I'm in last, may as well try to catch s***-lightning in a bottle.
