GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Regarding the Josh Johnson deal--any team could've been equally screwed on the deal. Boston wanted him, if I remember. Nobody expected he'd get hurt. Good thing he's a free agent. We had to trade Yunel Escobar--remember, he had on-field issues--and Hech hasn't impressed (his dWAR is actually negative). Reyes, had he stayed healthy, would've been very useful for the Jays. Another thing--most of those prospects we traded were not close to the majors, outside of d'Arnaud. Marisinick shouldn't even be in the MLB--the Marlins rushed him. I don't know how I missed this. This is one big ball of stupid. Holy f***ing s*** this is dumn. You are dumn. Enough.

Caper Verified Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Nobody really blames him for it. Anyone who says they thought Gomes could do this is lying. I'm not talking about blaming him for it... I'm just saying he was a bad guy to lose. A catcher that can play a bit of infiled and hit a bit is pretty valuable. I was pumped whn he came up last year... But all people kept telling me was all he would do is strike out when ever pitchers decided to start throwing breaking balls.

ExposFan Verified Member Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Great post, Olerud363. Not sure why anyone gives a s*** what a fat Internet tough guy like Stoeten has to say though. My turds have more insight than that tubby hipster.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Is this the standard you want to set? "Well, some other team's GM is probably stupider!" We're not locked in with AA. Rogers has great incentive to find the best GM possible and has the money to pay the going rate. If you allow that AA isn't the best man for the job, then why keep him? I believe even if the best GM available was hired, Beeston believes he should be and would make himself involved in the Baseball decision making process and he'd f*** things up. Beeston needs to go.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Aren't you forgetting Stroman, Nolin, Sanchez, Osuna, Stilson, Jimenez and others? And we have enough OFs in the system that we could probably fill the LF hole from within. Most of the aim should be at 2B, C and SP. My best guess and what should happen is Osuna isn't pitching in 2014 at any level of ball.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 How many fans are at the park without the trades?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) How many fans are at the park without the trades? If the team had a winning record without the players acquired......the same or pretty close. And really Kev', If ticket sales is their priority over winning this is an even more f***ed up organization than I believed. I'm starting to wonder if the Jays are gonna follow the Marlins build & burn model. If they do, sadly I'll have to turn my allegiances of favourite team over to another team. I can't stand the rapid window of have & have-not. It's a really hollow way to run an organization. Edited August 24, 2013 by GeorgiaPeach

I can't stand the rapid window of have & have-not. It's a really hollow way to run an organization. Half (if not more) of a F.O.'s job is to be profitable. The win and they draw thing has been said forever but it's no where near as safe as selling tickets in the off season and if the team is complete s*** still drawing 40K every weekend (and this will continue for the rest of the year at least the 500 level will be crowded). What has happened with the team not even coming close to expectations, is poorer than hoped TV ratings (remember when they hinted that they thought 1,000,000 viewers might be realistic if the team does as well as they thought it would). IF the F.O. can't build a winning ball club, they may as well be good at building up buzz and selling tickets. Question will be, can they get the casuals to be excited again? I'd say no, but the Dodgers did it for years, as have the Cubs (of course both of those parks are an experience whereas the Rogers Centre is well...not. I say zero chance the Jays do a tear down and rebuild...this F.O. is now going to do a Dombrowski/Rizzo/Reagins pray and hope method. What we see is what we get, really only question will be whether the potential improved pitching depth will improve the team or not. There never was a plan B, there was no thought in this F.O. that this team would fail and if it did it would do so while burning the trade value of almost everyone they acquired. The minute the Jays do a completely bad PR move (trading a producing fan favourite to fill multiple holes and increase depth) I'll believe that maybe they are thinking about building a baseball team but until then I'll continue to think that they have idiots (including AA) running the show.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 The issue to me is patience. Letting a rebuilding process run its course is very important, even more so when you have a disappointing season like 2012. Who lost patience and why is the big question for me. I suspect Beeston was a big proponent of going all in last off season, but I can't prove it. Fire AA? Sure, why not. Although it's interesting that we resent him for emptying a farm system that he was responsible for building.
digiblader Verified Member Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 At least we don't have a guy like Arte Moreno meddling on the team--that guy makes Rogers look good: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/23287160/while-dipoto-or-scioscia-will-lose-angels-blame-game-owner-is-far-from-clean Moreno meddled into Jerry Dipoto and Mike Sciosia's business--he thought bringing in big stars would help the team.
