No I know that you didnt create pitch fx. Lol.

I'm saying that Corbin would rank ahead of Harvey for Cy Young. They're both having a great year and Harvey's WAR is silly. That said, a lot of traditional stuff goes into picking the Cy. Corbin is having a better Cy Young type season. Frankly he might be a better pitcher too.

Even most of Harvey's old school metrics are elite though. Literally the only one that isn't are his W totals. Cy Young voters have picked Greinke and Felix in the past with low win totals. It's the one dino metric that's almost extinct.

There is literally no argument for Corbin being a better pitcher than Matt Harvey going forward. Your last statement is about as classic crazy KSaw as we'll get.

Bill James "I can read the minds of voters. I'm a mentalist"

People due this all the time. There are things like Oscar predicting formulas, market analysis and of course there's Nate Silver work on the last U.S. Presidential election. No one can predict the future but a formula makes a better Nostradamus than any Nostradamus.

Can anyone see Rivera getting it ahead of Scherzer this year?? How many voters will rank him 1 or 2 in part for sentimentality? I mean he's been very very good too but I don't want Scherzer robbed.

Scherzer has so far more K's and W's than anyone else that's it's hard to see the writers going with anyone else despite an ERA that's not as good as a dozen other guys with as many games started.

In the NL, Kimbrel COULD legitimately steal it from Kershaw. They've both had KILLER seasons.

Anyone think that MLB with introduce a Mariano Rivera award at some point in the next 5-10 years? Would be for the best reliever, making them ineligible for the Cy Young.

Rolaids relief award?

LOL. If they decide to go corporate yes.

The Rolaids Relief award actually exists although it's not like the official awards because it is formula based not voting based. If they created a voter based one, I could see it being named after Rivera. It would definitely decrease the likelihood of closers winning Cy Young the way the Cy Young decreases pitcher's chances of winning the MVP.

I can really see them doing it. The game has changed a lot since the Cy Young award was created. These high end bullpens with specialists are an important part of teams these days, especially in the playoffs. Rivera's retirement might provide just the impetus to make it happen sooner than later too.

It wasn't a joke lol it's already a thing

Yeah I forgot. I've seen it online or on ads at some point.

But I was picturing a voted award that would be for relievers only, taking them out of consideration for the Cy Young.

They should wait 15-20 years so they can name it The Craig Kimbrel Award.

I don't think that's a realistic possibility. I just can't imagine voters looking past a sub-2 ERA from a starter.

True. That just doesn't happen very often.

Since 2000:

1. 1.87, Clemens 2005

2. 1.88, Kershaw 2013

3. 2.16, Greinke 2009

4. 2.19, Fernandez

Thanks. So only once between Pedro and Kershaw. Forgot about that insane (and presumably PED fueled) season that Clemens had.

So this does make 2013 Kershaw pretty special. Obvious Cy Young winner despite how good Kimbrel has been.

and RickyRo

1.980 ERA or 19.80 ERA?

Yes Kershaw will win by a landslide, though I would pick Harvey.

even if Harvey didn't get hurt it wouldn't have been an egregious error to go with Kershaw...now it's a given.

Why was this bumped exactly???

The link in the OP now links to the 2014 Cy predictor, where Buehrle is #2 behind Scherzer.
