Well here we are at the last game of the season. The draft window sits at 8 - 11. The Jays could really REALLY use a lose.

Best case scenario; Jays, and Brewers Lose, Mets, and Phillies win.

This has us drafting 8th

Worst case scenario; Brewers Lose, Jays win.

That has us drafting 11th, outside the top 10.

If the Jays lose the worst we can finish is 10th. If we sweep the damn Rays to finish the year... mother of god.

Sweep the Rays, finish outside of the protected picks, crush TB's wild card hopes... sounds about right.

Best case, we win and eliminate the rays and Milwaukee wins giving us the 10th pick.

I don't want the rays to get extra money from the playoffs. In my opinion that could be worse for the jays then not getting a protected pick...we won't sign a big free agent anyway.

If the Jays lose today (now down 6-0) and if my logic is right, then a top 10 pick is guaranteed with a chance of getting up as high as 8th but it'd depend on the Mets and Phillies both winning. A tie with anyone of them gives Jays the higher position as they had the lower record next year. Looks like best case scenario (I think) is that Colorado gets 7th and the Jays get 8th so it seems like it will be 8th, 9th or 10th.

Not looking good for the 'best case scenario', but it does look like the Jays will lose to clinch a top 10 pick. Phillies losing pretty big and the Mets are also losing (although closer)

I guess a top 10 pick would make #TankNation a partial success this year. Surprising!

Can't wait until they pick back-to-back unsignable overdraft high school pitchers at 10 and 11!!!!!

Don`t you mean low upside 'safe'college pitchers that should be able to be a 3-5 at the majors in a few years *cough* JenkinsMcGuire *cough*

Jays will draft 9th and 11th unless the Phillies somehow come back to win (in which case we'd draft 8th and 11th.

Congrats tank nation

So what players will this apply to?

Brian McCann

Mike Napoli

Corey Hart

Robinson Cano

Jacoby Ellsbury

Curtis Granderson

Shin-Soo Choo

Nelson Cruz

Matt Garza

Hiroki Kuroda

That seems to be the only likely bets. Probably none of these guys will be on the radar though, and a lot will just stay put.

Garza was traded so there is no compensation possible. Depending on his demands I could see Ruiz getting one as well.

s*** that's true on Garza. I'd be pretty surprised if Ruiz was offered (and then declined) $14 million or whatever.

To be honest, I don't see the pick protection actually coming into play. AA has no history of signings like that, and there just isn't that much of interest available. McCann would be nice, but he'll probably stay in Atlanta. Ditto Ellsbury and Boston. Ditto Kuroda and New York. Maybe Choo, but he'll probably earn $100+ million for his age-32 to 37 seasons.

Hopefully there's some good news on JJ and Morrow in October or whenever they'll get an update. I'm not saying it's the best option, but if JJ shows he's healthy and they can get him at a discount for 1 year, I lean towards that gamble and focusing on improving 2b, C and the bench. At the end of the day, they won't get a #1-2 so contention will hinge on improvements and health from the guys they were counting on this year. I say give it a go and if it tanks again, start trading assets at the deadline, starting with Bautista and EE.

Which is exactly what I have been posting . Odds of signing one of these guys are about 100 to 1 against . Obviously signing McCann would be the single most addition we could make but That just seems too far out to think he would even come here if we offered the most . Also a lot depends on whether Morrow and JJ needs surgery

Phillies lost

So there's a 3 way tie at .457 record, which represents spots 9-11 in reverse standings (Blue Jays, Brewers and Mets)

So we will get 9th overall pick due to previous season's records (Mets and Brewers were both better than us in 2012)

That is correct.

AA has said he wants to improve the rotation, saying he needs to add a piece or two for months and again earlier today. They've been scouting Garza all season long. If the money is right they'll make an offer.

McCann is a long shot but, he would help this team more than any free agent on the market.
