G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Yikes. Even the players are starting to feel like we do:
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 We could be looking at a 2011 Red Sox level disaster before this season is over.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 f*** Buehrle. This team isn't as bad, they have played below of his capacity.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Most of the "over rated" falls squarely on the underperforming shoulders of Josh Johnson R A Dickey Brett Lawrie
Tuco Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I dont see anything wrong with what MB said.
Buster Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Thanks for the quote, Captain Obvious.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 I really think that was necessary. Only bad things can result from this. He needs to go immediately. This is the second time this season hes said something like this. It was fairly clear he never wanted to be here in the first place
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I'm pretty sure Buehrle said this earlier in the year. I have no problem with him saying it earlier and repeating it now.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I hope it works. He's pitched pretty good but I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. Whoops was supposed to be a quote....about him wanting out of town.
Tuco Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 There's no doubt he's right But do you say that to the media after the offense let you down? Why not? This season has been a gong show and totally unacceptable. I'm glad that a guy like Buerhle is finally speaking out and calling things like they are. I mean who really cares at this point? The season is already toast.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 We could be looking at a 2011 Red Sox level disaster before this season is over. I think you mean 2012. And I would take a 2012 Red Sox disaster here if it meant next year could be our Red Sox 2013
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 It was fairly clear he never wanted to be here in the first place So now we're gonna hear about that again instead of actually dissecting whether or not he's right. How about the media actually look at management and ask the question "did management mis-evaluate 38 year old Dickey, Cabrera off steroids, Johnson's injury risks and how he'd do in the AL east, Morrow's ability to stay healthy, Romero's ability to bounce back, JPA behind the plate, etc"? If this gets the media to ask some of these questions, then it could be a positive.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Yikes. Even the players are starting to feel like we do: Maybe buehrle sucks...like the rest of baseball already knows.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Most of the "over rated" falls squarely on the underperforming shoulders of Josh Johnson R A Dickey Brett Lawrie I agree, but JJ does have a 3.56 xFIP and has been victim of a high BABIP this season. He also has a 9.1 K/9 this season as well. As for Dickey and Lawrie, yeah they've both been utter trash.
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Yikes. Even the players are starting to feel like we do: That could be loaded with context. A consistent veteran like Buehrle knows exactly what he is. Perhaps this was aimed at ... flashier ... quarters of the team.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I think if there's one guy on the team who's got the pedigree and credentials to basically tell the truth, it's Buehrle. Gibbons has actually said something very similar to this. I heard him say that either the team starts winning or they're simply not good enough. He probably said it in a joking way with Blair and Hayhurst so no one took him seriously or something which is understandable since he's always goofing around with those 2 as if his team is playing great ball. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
Flashman Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Maybe the press guy asked a pointed question that could only be answered this way. Sure, that's possible. But with that said, Buehrle is in his 13th season of MLB; you'd think he'd be a deft handler of the media by this point, and wouldn't send out messages that could be misinterpreted.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Sure, that's possible. But with that said, Buehrle is in his 13th season of MLB; you'd think he'd be a deft handler of the media by this point, and wouldn't send out messages that could be misinterpreted. You mean misinterpreted by the Spanish-speaking players? I'm sure Buehrle didn't misspeak here, he said what he thought fully aware of what he was saying. I'm actually hoping the lazy media that covers this team actually starts asking questions to management about their evaluations of these players based on Buehrle's comments, but it's probably wishful thinking.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 What else is Buehrle going to say? This is a bad team and everyone knows it. I guess some here are worried about that chemistry or something which is rather rich.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 So Nicolino is making his AA debut tonight?
over500 Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Everyday, I keep telling myself, "this is the lowest low. It can't get worse". But the Jays amazingly find a way to prove me wrong the next day. What's next? JPA multi year extension?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 On a more interesting and uplifting note, Hutchison so far tonight: 1IP, 2K...but the question is, can he hit?
CHRIS Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 You know it to be true. I might legitimately done with this team if they extend JPA. I just can't have faith in a team that has faith in JPA. Despite the talent they've lost prospect-wise, this team is still salvageable if they can learn from this season, have guys like Hutch and Stroman step up, and NOT commit long-term to JPA. Seems like they'll have the money again going into next season as well.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 You know it to be true. If that happens, the Rays board?
mitchf Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Who cares? Mark Buehrle just experienced two of the worst possible seasons. I appreciate his outspokenness, there should be more of it.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Cards? Time to bump the Colby top 10 CF thread?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Time to bump the Colby top 10 CF thread? Still think it's too early, he's one bad month from being at the bottom of the barrel again.
