8D Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Didn't see this coming at all. Excited to see Lawrie at 2B. Poor Kawa, wins us the game vs. the Indians just a couple of days ago and sent packing, lol.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Jays days after the Jays say they won't bring Lawrie back up until he's hitting well. I think he's on a 2-12 skid with 9 strikeouts in the last few games.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 .319 OBP does not qualify as ALOT, which is two words by the way. f*** you. I was taught in school a lot was two words... Wasn't since auto correct I had a problem. It will always be two words in me my books.
The_DH Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 At 2b he has to dive more and has runners coming at him. It should be interesting.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Yeah, I get the feeling this team is going to see some big changes between now and next spring. AA has to put everything into this team contending next year or he will be on the hot seat. Oh yeah If they fail to make the playoffs in 2014 and 2015, he and Beeston are both fired. Possibly even if they just miss next year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I am fine with keeping JJ and offering him a QO. if he accepts, we have him for next year, if he doesn't we get the pick. I like either. As for RP, Janssen and Oliver should be at the top of the to move list. Agree wholeheartedly with all the above. I could have easily written the same post word for word.

TheEndIsNigh Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Guy is like .500 at key moments plus he gets on base ALOT, can't really ask more from a number 9 hitter. His job description is to not screw up on defense, get on base for the top of the order, and if for some weird reason, the hitters before him are on base, make a key hit. LOL, no he doesn't, and his D has not been good either. kawa is not a guy you want on your starting MLB roster.
TheEndIsNigh Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 II don't get the people saiyng Lawire at 2nb is an experiment. If you can play third you can play second. Lawrie has played second before and he is athletic. Get a 3b in the offseason.
Hawkguy Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 And his career OBP is .297. Since you're not familiar with small sample sizes or RTTM, I'm just going to dismiss your misguided opinion altogether at this point. He is a below replacement level player and a quasi-racist gimmick. The right player was optioned. First of all, his entire career is a small sample size. The fact that you chirped me for a small sample size applies right back to you. Also, he was on pace for a positive war. Learn your f***ing stats before you start spewing out ********. Nice try, moron. Either way, welcome back Brett! Glad to have you back.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 So is Lawrie really staying at 2B long term?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 So is Lawrie really staying at 2B long term? yeah. He is a good athlete and good defender. 2B > 3B
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 So is Lawrie really staying at 2B long term? Frankly, no one knows. It would make SOME sense though since you see more plays at 2nd than 3rd generally, so the increased defense there could be more valuable if everything else is equal.

Yeah it definitely makes sense to keep him there if he can play 2B. It just seems like this move came out of no where and happened pretty quickly.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Altuve agrees with #Astros on 4-year, $12.5M extension with two club options at $6M, $6.5M. Lawrie + Esmil for Altuve.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Lawrie + Esmil for Altuve. Since he just signed with the stros, do you think what you said makes any sense?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Lawrie didn't get tested much today but a ball was hit to Izturis today that Lawrie would make look fairly routine. Personally unless they upgrade third base with a good bat. We need him at third base. We'll have to wait and see how much range he has at 2B. If he has really good range at 2B to both sides, it's probably better to have that up the middle plus his bat is looking iffy for a 3B.

I feel like diving is fundamentally important on the middle IF.... not as much as 2B, but still can make a difference.

I feel like sliding is fundamentally important on the middle IF.... not as much as 2B, but still can make a difference. You mean like dive for groundballs? I would think he's still tentative because of the ankle and I can't really blame him, it'll take a bit of time for him to not worry about it.

He wasn't doing it before the injury either.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Since he just signed with the stros, do you think what you said makes any sense? So because he just signed an extension means he's now untouchable?
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 So because he just signed an extension means he's now untouchable? It's certainly not the best time to be making hypothetical trade scenarios (annoyING).
admin Site Manager Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I don't get this move. 2B is much easier to fill than 3B. AFter one year at 3B, it looked like he could have turned into one of the best 3B in the league. WHy change that?

Gibbons said that since they're in last place, things can't get any worse so maybe he'll give them a shot in the arm.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Gibbons said that since they're in last place, things can't get any worse so maybe he'll give them a shot in the arm. Come on Gibby, it can always get worse... We're 3/4 of a step from #Tanknation as it is

I would think he's still tentative because of the ankle and I can't really blame him, it'll take a bit of time for him to not worry about it. Every time Reyes is involved in a play I get a little worried. I kind of silently hope he doesn't dive and he's ok.
admin Site Manager Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Well Lawrie's value soars if he can play both positions well above average, but I'm sure were keeping him so it just allows us to look at both 2B and 3B outside options. Also, 3B is a league wide more productive offensive position, meaning it is probably easier to find a 3B with a bat than a 2B with a bat. Fair enough. Gives many more options.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Didn't watch the game (hardly watch at all anymore. It's amazing how terrible the product is, with what happened in the offseason). How did Lawrie look at 2nd? I want meaningless one game scouting reports on the 20-80 scale, by respected posters only.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I didn't see it either, but on the highlights I saw him slap down a tag to catch a guy stealing. Based on that alone.... 90
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Yeah he looked great on that tag catching the base stealer at second. He straddled the bag perfectly, while looking strong and dominate, not giving an inch.
