G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Anyone seen him in Buffalo? Is it mental/approach/swing/plate discipline? He's a bust unless he can get the hits up and it's discouraging in his second year of AAA Also I do t have the stats in front of me but even his base stealing success rate is down. Thoughts???

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 10, 2013 Author Posted July 10, 2013 He will be fine. Better him having a down time now rather when he's up in the big league. Hope so But when do you dare call him up? September when it doesn't matter?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 He needs to step it up, enough sulking Gose
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Confidence is everything, and for whatever reason, it's shattered at the moment. Being a hyper-competitive player like Gose -- and a star prospect all the way up the ladder -- it's a very scary thing when the thought finally dawns on you that you might stall out at AAA and never really make it. He's putting a lot of pressure on himself right now, and that's a pretty hard way to excel. If you want to look at the bright side, his K/BB in his brief MLB stint this year was quite encouraging. He still has a future as a nice 4th OF at the very least, with a pretty decent shot at having some 3-4 WAR seasons IMO. There's no reason to think that he won't make an appearance in the bigs again this year, in September at least. All it really takes is a few multi-hit games to get his confidence going. The swing and miss will always be there, but the plus speed and CF defence are in no danger of declining any time soon; there are still a lot of useful things this guy can do between the lines when his head is screwed on right.
8D Verified Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I still wouldn't trade Gose. His tools are still there and he's young. I'd hold onto him for like a few more years and hope he pulls it together.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 They've made major changes to his swing 3 times in 2 years. I think it's time to take a step back and get back to what got him by before.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Gose is a 4.5 tools player, If he can't hit then Jays can use the other tools. Denorfia .320 wOBA = 1.7 WAR (82 games or 3.1 WAR 150 games) Bourn .305 wOBA = 1.6 WAR (63 games or 3.8 WAR 150 games) Cain .305 wOBA = 1.6 WAR (76 games or 3.2WAR 150 games)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 his head just isn't in it right now Dammit Not happy about this Hopefully he plays MLB in September, gets all juiced up for spring training and makes the team
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 DFA Bonifacio and call up Gose Then we can put it in the main section

He's finally playing to his true talent level.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 He just came up with bases loaded, tie game, tried to bunt and popped it up for 2nd out WTF?!?!
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 They should make him bunt every AB u til he gets down 10 in a row.
Errorcebia Verified Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 He got Blue Jay prospect syndrome
BJBirdy Verified Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 his head just isn't in it right now I was there for both games in Syracuse, and I've been to 4 Bisons games in the past month. I think Gose just thinks he's too good for AAA and he has a horrible attitude (off-topic, but he refuses to sign autographs; I've seen him ignore everyone all season long both inside and outside the ballpark, definitely a rarity for minor league baseball). He was picked off at first in the game yesterday and it was a weird site to see. He made a move toward first then he just stood there and let the first baseman tag him out. I like that Marty Brown has been having him bat 8th for the past few weeks. Maybe it'll help him get his head out of his ass.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Marisnick 6.2% BB, 21.5% K (good for him) .291/.360/.491 .388 wOBA .200 ISO .343 BABIP

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 This is a Gose thread mate. Marisnick is still just a B- prospect Gose and Marisnick are archenemies.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 This is a Gose thread mate. Marisnick is still just a B- prospect really? Personally I've always ranked Marisnick higher than Gose and now that I've had a chance to see his D is legit (while still not as good as Gose). There isn't a huge gap between Marisnick and several top 25 OF's (JBJ, Soler, Polanco and even Yelich come to mind).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Gose and Marisnick are archenemies. no, Gose fans and Marisnick fans are archenemies.
BJBirdy Verified Member Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 I've never been super sold on Marisnick. I think he's a good prospect, but I don't know if he'll be anything that will be hard to replace in MLB.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Jesus. He's falling apart. Sure looks that way
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Sure looks that way Goddamn Gose is having Romero like struggles. The Jays need to invest in a psychologist asap
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 Poor plate approach? Dumb base running errors? Call him up - he'd fit right in!
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) They've made major changes to his swing 3 times in 2 years. I think it's time to take a step back and get back to what got him by before. He got by on good hand-eye coordination and slapping and running and driving the odd mistake minor league garbage pitch for a double. He's not a major leaguer with that approach. The problem now seems to be that he has become very good at putting the bat on the ball but often on bad pitches to hit, resulting in weak contact. No one is going to challenge him in the zone with a fastball if they don't have to and right now they don't have to. Edited July 19, 2013 by KSaw Typo

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2013 Author Posted July 19, 2013 It's odd because be actually did well during hit brief call up but over a larger sample size I suspect he would have been exposed.
