kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I don't agree with this at all. Rasmus has been good for us this year yes, but i think this is all you can expect from him. He's a power hitting CF with with an ok obp and good range in CF. But to me he is a 2 tool player and that is all power and fielding. He has a shitttttty arm, hasn't stole a base yet this year i believe, and won't ever hit for avg. He also doesn't show he has a high baseball iq and k's way to much. Get rid of this guy for something good while you can, id take ben revere over this guy in a heartbeat. Sure Ben Revere has speed, but doesn't get on base enough to really take advantage of it. Even with all that speed, he couldn't even manage to get 20 extra-base hits last season. His OBP is marginally better than Colby's, and his SLG is over 100 points lower.

flafson Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Utley is great but he makes about 15mil a year right now, not really worth it unless you can get him to sign a shorter term (3 year ish) for less than 10mil each.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 bye bye Sanchez, Gose and whatever prospects we have left. Gose probably is going to be a major bust anyways.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 That hurts my heart. Goddamn I had high hopes for that kid. How many times has this board said "if only he could learn to hit..."
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Utley is great but he makes about 15mil a year right now, not really worth it unless you can get him to sign a shorter term (3 year ish) for less than 10mil each. It's a half year rental and its not our money. I could care less about how much he makes
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I actually thought he'd hit enough. He managed to be above-average offensively the last two years while not repeating a level and being among the youngest players in the league. My god has he been bad this year though. Me too. His Vegas numbers last year were good and he was decent during his short callup this year. But his Buffalo numbers are atrocious. We've all said we'd be happy if he could BA .250 and take some walks. But that seems much less plausible now. What a shame cause his speed and defense are just... Well you know. Like you say, it hurts to think about it. Only good news is that Rasmus seems to have at least become an above average CF. But I still wanted some Gose.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 That hurts my heart. Goddamn I had high hopes for that kid. The good thing is he still probably has decent value, might not be as high as it was but he should still be a significant trading chip. This time next year he might be worthless, I think its time to move him. Utley wouldn't be my first choice since he is really old, but it he could do wonders for this team. Solidify the D and give this team another credible bat and provide like .100 points higher in OBP than what we have got thus far from 2B. That would greatly help this team to contend next season.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Yup. I was pretty vocal about wanting him on the MLB team, and thought we'd trade Rasmus and have at least as good a replacement. Now, I'm pretty much expecting a 4th OF. Boy, if only SOMEONE called this s*** years ago. I guess the Otis Nixon comp was too kind.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Boy, if only SOMEONE called this s*** years ago. I guess the Otis Nixon comp was too kind. Shall I pull up the email from May where you said you don't like Marisnick any more? Or are you back on the bandwagon now that he's re-solidified himself as a Top 50 prospect?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Only good news is that Rasmus seems to have at least become an above average CF. But I still wanted some Gose. Sanchez + Osuna (is he eligible to be traded already?) + Lind for Utley and Howard. Am I doing it right AA? Seriously looking back at the offseason trades...I can find peace with the Marlins one but Dickey for d'Arnaud and Syndergaard? That one's the stinger. Edit: It wasn't supposed to be a reply but whatever, I agree about the Rasmus part, while he may be inconsistent he always has good power and good range in CF, certainly better than the scrubs we were throwing out there before we acquired him.
backontop Verified Member Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Utley one of the best second basemen in the NL? If so, we NEED this guy for at least 2014. I don't think that is very Utley especially getting Cano Robinson from are rivals in NY is highly unlikely. Reyes and Utley, and Rasmus up the middle, that is great, but to fill out the all important area we need to get a new catcher.
8D Verified Member Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Imagine if the Jays shocked everyone again in the offseason, only this time going all in for it signing Cano!! Dominicans!!! Gose(maybe it'll click for him)/Melky (if he can find a really good chemist/supplier this offseason)/Rajai (continue to do what he's doing and improving) in LF for '14 Any serviceable catcher for '14 At least position players are set?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Shall I pull up the email from May where you said you don't like Marisnick any more? Or are you back on the bandwagon now that he's re-solidified himself as a Top 50 prospect? I don't trust the Marlins, and don't like him in that park on that team. Plus, I made a conscious decision to not pick any Jays prospects, or guys that I am biased towards.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Boxy's silence in this thread is deafening. Or I went out with my girlfriend on a Friday evening?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Except you like Gose more than anyone in the DDL. We learned this at the draft. I was planning to sell him to one of you darrelly plugs once he put up a .450 BABIP in April. Didn't work out as I planned.
