Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 ESPN's Buster Olney reports that if the Phillies decide to trade Chase Utley, the Blue Jays would be one of the teams that bids on him. The Dodgers and Royals have also been mentioned as possible landing spots, and a number of other teams would surely have interest. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro finally conceded recently that the club might be sellers at the trade deadline. Jul 5 - 12:13 PM Rotoworld
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Why? Ostensibly because AA thinks this team still has a chance, or his job is on the line if they don't come close to making the playoffs.

I always knew that he would be chasing him, but come on. Thanks for the news posts!

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Utley? Why? Sign him in the FA Ew f*** that Like you said bro, Cano or Bust
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Utley? Why? Sign him in the FA Meh, you could foster a winning atmosphere and negotiate with him prior to FA, some s*** like that. Based on what I know about AA's reasoning, that seems like a likely thought process. Our 2B position really has been a blackhole of production all year (especially defensively). In fairness to this scenario, if we could bring in Utley on a reasonable 2-3 year extension ($10-12 M per) with options, would everybody really hate that so much? Even when this guy misses 50 games he's still a 3 WAR player. He's still a pretty f***ing good player and he's finally healthy. Granted, if AA deals off Sanchez for Utley, it will be a clusterf***.

I could really see AA doing this. Probably would move someone like Gose as the main piece and keep Rasmus.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 At this point AA should be in on everybody, price is another thing..
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 I could really see AA doing this. Probably would move someone like Gose as the main piece and keep Rasmus. I've pretty much given up on Gose ever having an adequate hit tool.
JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Another case where it doesn't make sense being a last place team that's horribly inconsistent. He's not a young player. We're not making a push being within a few games of first place. It'll mean more than likely taking on money, sending money, sending at least a decent prospect from a farm that we're a bit bare in for what? A splash? Another news headline of the Jays making a big deal that doesn't amount to anything? I'm not trying to be myopic but this team seems to take one step ahead and 3 back. The rotation is injured, the guys who aren't injured are inconsistent and there seems to be chemistry issues in the clubhouse. Could they hit another win streak, yes. Likely, no. Unless it's controllable starters who can give the team a chance instead of the meltdowns of Wang, JJ and company who dominate one day, go out and play like sh*t the next few starts a move like this won't make much sense.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I've pretty much given up on Gose ever having an adequate hit tool. I was never a big fan of Gose. I think he could be valuable still, but if AA could flip him for a player that could please the fanbase for this season (ie. keep ticket sales up) and set this team up for next season (extension needed), then Gose is good as gone. I think Rasmus has secured his spot in CF for 2014.

Many prospect fizzle so if they can get something in return for him that is going to help from day one and hopefully another year or two at least, do it.

He's a power hitting CF with with an ok obp and good range in CF. But to me he is a 2 tool player and that is all power and fielding. He has a shitttttty arm, hasn't stole a base yet this year i believe, and won't ever hit for avg. He also doesn't show he has a high baseball iq and k's way to much. Get rid of this guy for something good while you can, id take ben revere over this guy in a heartbeat.

Revere has less power than Kawasaki and it's not like he gets on base either.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Chase Utley is a dreamboat. Make it happen, AA.

Yes i would, you need someone in CF who can throw the ball and not have brain cramps every 5games. While revere doesn't get on base as much as you would like he won't strike out nearly as much as rasmus and will steal a shitload of bases. This team has enough power they need good defenders, smart players and guys who can put the ball in play.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 What's his NTC like if he has one? Toronto has to be listed on like 90% of them when there is one I would guess.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I also believe Revere will be making the minimum next year, where as Colby going to get paid quite a bit.

Power is more important than those two things combined and that's what Rasmus has.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Don't really care how noodly a guy's arm is or how often he K's, when he can run baseballs down like a gazelle and ISO .200+ I like Colby. He's an aesthetically pleasing player, it just looks like he was born to play baseball. It helps to focus on what he is and not what he could have been.
