Really, I'm just fascinated at the logistics of how such an event would occur. I'm actively contemplating this in my mind as we speak.

I'd get really drunk, probably do some stupid crazy powerful drugs and get a sharp knife... Not that complicated :P

I can see you've done some planning for this. Jolly good show!

I just drink a lot, the rest is a logical progression...

Move Jimenez up to AAA. If he keeps hitting, bring him up in a month, and let him split time with JPA.

Dump JPA in the offseason, let Jimenez be the catcher.

If Jimenez hits .180/.200, he'll still provide more value than JPA did.

Dump Rogers at the deadline.

JJ.

Oliver.

Janssen.

Davis.

Rasmus.

Make McGowan a starter.

Make Stroman start.

Offseason. Cano or die trying.

Love that reference :P

but on topic:

Trade Lind ASAP because he might still be valuable on the market. I remember being blasted during the win streak for saying that we should move him, but as he's cooled off, he should be traded because he's going to bring back more than what he's worth for a team that's contending right now.

Rasmus because he's at FA season, either that or extend him ASAP and trade Melky/Gose

Oliver to Rangers because they don't mind relief and they like Oliver

JJ because JJ and Bonifacio to NL team because of utility option and speed

I doubt Rogers has any value, and I bet Buherle has as much, if not more, value than him. If so then trade his backloaded ass out of here

Trade Arencibia now before his stock drops even lower. We should send him to a desperate team that needs homerzzzzzz from the 'catching' position (Nats? Tigers? Mariners?)

Janssen because teams like the Tigers believe in savezzzzzzzzzzzz (ala Valverde signing) who need closers pay out the ass for one

Selling because you arent going to make it this year, but need a few tweaks is one thing.

Selling to rebuild is another.

Not all "selling" is the same. If we ditch JJ, and Oliver this year, that's not exactly folding the tents, but rather being optimistic for next year and the following year.

I bet AA does a "mild" sell.

We don't really have anyone to sell and if you give up JJ, does it worth losing a draft pick next year? Specially knowing that it will be a heavy talented draft?
Posted
where is the pick we get for JJ?

If a team with a draft pick under the 10th pick we get it.... so basically we either get no compensation or a pick between 11 and 30 depending on the team that signed him

This is exactly what I'm advocating

Any chance we can fetch anything for Sergio Santos? I'm guessing not much, as he would likely offer very little down the stretch to contending teams seeing as his health is a huge question mark for the remainder of the season but perhaps in the offseason? I was excited when we signed him last offseason but now almost 2 years later we've gotten what, 12 or so innings out of him. I don't think Santos is talented enough that we give him the McGowen treatment and sit around waiting for him to get healthy, harsh as it may sound.

No. No one wants a guy with that track record of DL time. What a shame on that deal. I thought it was a grat pickup at the time too.

Well, at least it's turned out to be a nothing trade for both sides, as Nestor Molina is now 24 and repeating AA. The biggest letdown about that deal though is that Santos was the biggest acquisition of the 2011-12 offseason.

There is no point in trading Santos. Move one of our higher valued relievers and then once he is done rehabbing call him up. If he ever stays healthy his value will increase quite a bit.

If we move him, its deadline next year (if he stays healthy the whole way). I prefer to keep him and make him collect save to give him that 'Closer value'

And the $$$

If we do decide to sell at the deadline, I'd have every player on the block (except Lawrie) trying to create a bidding war. As long as we don't pull a Miami Marlins and trade guys away for nothing I'm fine. Would rather take my chances with this team next year than just see a salary dump.

Also an above-average SS signed for 3 years @ $5 million per year. Also a 22-year old starter.

Adeiny is a minus WAR, they could have done better had they sold them individually. Even Bud Selig thought the trade was ridiculous.

Posted

Buerhle 12 straight years of 200 + innings

JJ had a WAR of 3.4

Reyes 4.2

They traded Escobar for a 23 year old in A ball. The Marlins were just dumping salaries.

Posted
Of course they were just dumping salaries - they were trading the expensive years of backloaded FA deals lol. They should have received almost nothing for that package, not real assets.

And what they did with Escobar is immaterial. He found his way to a solid organization who will get 3+ WAR from him this year at $5 million. For 2013, Yunel Escobar will be far and away the most valuable player involved in the deal.

J.J has one year left and Buerle has 3, only Reyes has a lengthy contract. If your admitting it was a salary dump what are you arguing with me for.

At the time it looked like we raped the marlins and every significant baseball figure agreed with this....now it's looking like we got raped.

And of course we did, we're the jays. NOTHING ever breaks our way.

Now we can't even be sellers cause it will look bad so we're really screwed.

Because the fact that they were able to dump the salary, but also bring back several assets, is quite impressive.
