Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Nobody mention Arencibia yet? Top 10 catchers, especially ones with 1 average to above average tools for the position shouldn't be in this discussion, not fair to the rest.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 At the same price, who would you choose to build a franchise. Trout: 5 tools guy (10 WAR season) Harper: Gamer, 8/8 power Machado: Stud in a premium position. A rare piece and hard to find. Puig: 5 tools guy (following the Trout steps.) Miguel Sano
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Lawrie. I still love all the people that were trying to make a Harper comp to Lawrie, particularly when the Nats were in town... Lawrie's ceiling is lower than Harper's floor.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Miguel Sano But seriously, no Stanton in that list?
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 http://spaceelephant.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Mike-Trout-Fat.jpg
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Not really. 147 wRC+ for a 1994 bday playing SS in A ball is pretty elite. How about a 114 RC+ from a 1994 bday playing SS in Advanced A ball?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 lol at puig. Yes 2 weeks all of a sudden makes him an elite player.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 How about a 114 RC+ from a 1994 bday playing SS in Advanced A ball? Lindor? Baez?
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Lindor? Baez? Russell, Baez is '92 baby and Lindor is '93
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Russell, Baez is '92 baby and Lindor is '93 Ok, 1994 Addison Russell
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I am so temped to add "Arencibia" to the list if choices in the thread title. But I will resist the temptation to do it despite having the powers to do so.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Russell, Baez is '92 baby and Lindor is '93 I was pining for him so hard last years draft, Oakland has to be a dick and take him. (Yes, I know Boras client)
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 1992 in AAA with 112 wRC+ and .350 wOBA, babip .269... love me some Bogaerts!
8D Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Puig is like the Cuban Lawrie. I should say 2011 version!
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I was pining for him so hard last years draft, Oakland has to be a dick and take him. (Yes, I know Boras client) He looks like a star at this point. Was playing injured for the first 6 weeks of the year and still putting up a 114 RC+ with a .350 wOBA, not to mention he easily sticks at SS
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 What about a 1994 putting up a 131 wRC+ in the MWL and needing only a .323 BABIP to do it. Boom. Pft. Low A, get outta here with that noise
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Although I don't put MM with BH and MT just yet... dude is on the pace to set the ML record !! for doubles in a season at 20yo. Pretty crazy stuff, so attributing lots of BABIP luck to his success is short changing him. Although I'm short it will regress a bit, he's obviously a special player.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 ThIS ONE PROSPECT ON MY FANTASY TEAM IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS ANOTHER PROSPECT
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) A little OT but I'm really tired of the media trying to promote Puig as the "next Trout". There is no next Trout. What he's doing right now is unheard of; he's a legendary talent. So yeah, Trout for me. No it's not unheard of. Edited July 8, 2013 by EdelweissBouquet
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Sure it is. Trout is going to be one of the best players ever. He was the best player in baseball at age 20 and it appears that is his true talent. It's irresponsible the compare anyone to Trout. Trout is way WAY too young and early in his career to make statements that he'll be one of the best players ever. With that said, everyone wanting to compare other players to Trout is ridiculous.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Is it though? It looks like he's going to have another season of 9+ WAR this year. The only players who have had multiple seasons that good are the inner circle HOFers and Trout will have done it at ages 20-21. WAY too early. Injuries / life happens to players. One major injury to Trout's legs and he becomes the current Alfonso Soriano.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Can't compare Puig to Trout because Puig's God. /thread
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
