Was at the game tonight. A few thoughts:

 

Passing was incredible, so unselfish, i think at least 6 guys were in doubld digits

 

Lowry is playing like an allstar. I'd re-sign him. His energy and defense have been off the charts

 

MORE Patrick Patterson please. Athletic big man who can shoot/pass/rebound. Could see hjm averaging 12/8 ish with playing time

 

We need anothet guard. The Ross/Salmons tandem doesnt do it for me.

 

Val is a beast, but Casey goes away from him too often in big moments.

It sucks real hard that the one year I can't watch the Raptors (I'd usually watch every game) they actually contend (albeit in a really weak conference). For those that have watched, how are players like Ross, DeMar and J-Val progressing (plus any others that have been solid contributors), I've seen a lot of praise for them but since I can't watch I don't know jack s***. Is Val like the anti-Bargs? Since the Gay trade I've read that the team has been less selfish, I would imagine that he took a lot of possessions/shots for the team.

I would definitely resign Lowry, the only small worry is that he's just performing like this for a new contract, but I don't think so.

 

We could use another SF/SG bench option, and I also think we need a solid defense/rebounding bench big. Like Aaron Gray lol

Ross is greatly improved at shooting 3s and defense. He looks way more confident now that he's starting. Demar still takes those annoying long twos, but he's been playing really well. Jonas still needs some work with his post moves, but he's definitely making progress and his FT shooting is still great.

 

 

The ball movement is 100000 times better without Gay and the bench is MUCH better, especially Patterson.

I wouldn't mind trading Demar for a high pick in the draft on a sell high in combination with other non-roster assets, drafting a really nice player, and then reinvesting Demar's $10m+ on a player in free agency (Luol Deng?). But only if it were reinvested. But it's Masai, I don't doubt he'd use it wisely. Thoughts?

I don't think moving Demar gets us a superstar, but if we can trade him + first this year + Knicks first then maybe that gets us a 6-10 pick, at which point we could draft, probably, a guy like Exum, Gordon, Selden, Cauley-Stein, Smart, Harrison, Vonleh, etc (there are so many ways the draft could go). Then we could reinvest some of the savings from Demar and waiving Salmons and I think Hayes is expiring and so on in a guy like Bledsoe on an RFA deal, Deng, maybe Parsons depending on his option, Gasol, Turner, Granger, etc. Maybe even Melo is Tim L is feeling like a f***ing alpha.

I would agree to the idea of trading DeMar for a high pick in what is being called a deep draft. However with so many teams tanking I would imagine some of them would be reluctant to trade their top pick, I'd imagine many of them would trade them as top 10 protected. Deng would be amazing in this hypothetical scenario but it also depends on whether Cleveland is stupid enough to actually wait for LeBron to go back.

If he truly has improved, and this is fundamentally in his most lacking areas, which were 3's and defense, then I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him. If there's one thing that I always loved about him was his finishing around the basket, left you wanting for him to drive more often but he chose to settle for out-of-place mid range jumpers instead of going inside and drawing contact.

He can hit a three from the corner at a good clip, it's when he settles for those near the top of the circle that gets him in trouble. He actually gets to the line a good amount considering his below average ball handling ability.

With our pick being around the late teens to early twenties I don't think it's worth trading it, another first and Demar for a pick in the 6-10 range. The draft is deep enough that the gap in talent might not be that different.

Outside of Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Exum and Smart this draft isnt all that special. Sure there is solid specs like Hood, Lavine, Gordon or Vonleh but I'm not convinced any of them will turn out better then DeMar eventually will (I dont think hes maxed out quite yet).

Even though the east conference sucks (except heat and pacers) it is still fun to watch the Raptors win and most likely make the playoffs. I started the year hoping the raptors lose, but the east is so bad, it's a lost cause for the raps to tank. Raptors have been fun to watch since trading gay.

Have read countless articles that are basically pencilling Parker in as a lock for 1st. The only thing that might hold some teams back is the whole Mormon missionary thing (clearly he won't go, but still).

Where have you read these articles? Anyone that says Parker is a lock for 1st probably hasn't watched much college basketball.
