Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Looking forward to seeing Luka Doncic after he skipped the Summer League.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Ugh if this ends up being a one year rental, which it likely will be, this might be a very bad deal for this team's future. Really hope OG isn't part of the package.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I don't really like DD but I'm not sure about this. KL has no desire to play in TO appearently.

Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 And apparently also made it clear that he plans to sign with LA at the first opportunity. So after next year we have DD's money off the books?

Really hope OG isn't part of the package. Especially if Leonard decides to sit out the second season in a row because he doesn't want to play for his team! That'd be crazy, but who could have predicted he'd do it with the Spurs last year?

Wooooooooooooooo Or he could be Kawhi-lite, and doesn't yet have a s***** uncle and manager that has continually stated that he wants to leave and only leave for the Lakers. If Kawhi somehow agrees to give a s*** and then maybe even sign here long-term then cool, not really seeing that happening though.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I actually like jakob more than OG unfortunate.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Wow that's a steal not to give up OG or Siakam. Poetle is limited to back up C and with Ibaka he can play the 5 when JV isn't on the court anyway. If Kawai is healthy this is a very good deal.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Deal done? Raps Kawhi Danny Green Spurs DeMar DeKobe Poeltl 1st Rnd 2019
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 f*** this is a great deal, hail masai
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Sad to lose Poeltl, I think he has excellent potential even if his shooting is limited. The guy seems to have elite positioning, he's always at the right spot, San Antonio is a great place for him.

It's not just if he's healthy, it's also if he doesn't pull a Vince Carter and quit on the team. I might be alright with one year of elite productivity, but that's not a given with Kawhi Leonard right now.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I'm a bit stumped why the Raps would have to add a 1st rounder to get a malcontent player on an expiring deal. Kawhi is a better all around player than Derozan when motivated (not questioning that) but Demar is a good player in his own right and not a contract that you need to dump at all costs. The team for this year is improved, but I question how that money can effectively be spent after this season. I guess Masai just wants to push in as much as he can for this year and then either try to re-sign Kawhi (against all odds) or totally blow it up.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 It’ll be interesting to see how DeRozan fits in with the Spurs.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 If Leonard doesn't pull a Vince Carter and actually is motivated to win, this is a fantastic deal for the Raps! They even clear DeRozan's salary off the books. Also, getting Danny Green is a nice add as well for the bench.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 If Leonard won't sign, will there be another big free agent to chase next summer?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 not knowing a ton about the ins and outs of the situation, I don't mind pushing if I'm in the Raps position. Make hay while Lowry can still play. Was never a huge fan of Derozan anyway. Hopefully it works out for them. Even from the periphery, its nice to see the support the Raps get in TO when they are playing well.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 DeRozan not happy. Saying he was lied to by the Raps.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 If Leonard won't sign, will there be another big free agent to chase next summer? I'm pretty sure Masai is gunning for Giannis in 2021. Every contract on the team is off the books in 2020
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Raptors were apparently trying to trade DeRozan for Wiggins last summer. Maybe the Raps aren't done yet? I'm sure something around Lowry + JV or another young player can land Wiggins from Minnesota. Raps might roll with Van Fleet/Wright from PG. Regardless, they are a better team with Leonard now than DD.

Lowry makes a ton of money but is still a very good player. 2 of Lowry/Wright/FVV can play on the floor at the same time with Lowry and FVV off ball shooting.

I guess Masai just wants to push in as much as he can for this year and then either try to re-sign Kawhi (against all odds) or totally blow it up. The first is a late 1st which isn't much in the NBA. Even if the Raps somehow bottom out and it is 1-20 it turns into two 2nd rounders. IF healthy Kawai is a top 3 player in the NBA and even if the injury made him worse he's still top 10-15, Derozan is really overrated with how bad defensively he is. The team was capped with how good they would be with DD so may as well swing for the fences and if it doesn't work out they can rebuild around the young core with lots of cap space in 2020.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Derozan is really overrated with how bad defensively he is. Also overrated offensively. He's not terribly inefficient, but ISO scorers like DD get shutdown against playoff teams.

It's a hail Mary bomb for 2019 with a fuse sticking out of it that can be easily lit.
