There's too many s***** teams in this conference and especially division for tanking to be worth it right now.

This draft is the type of draft you SHOULD tank in, actually. Lots of high ceiling prospects available in the top picks without a clear #1 (like yeah, Simmons, but still).

Superstars are not available via trade as often as you think and the only asset we have that's enticing is JV. You're not trading JV + a grab bag of Bruno, Noguera and Wright for a superstar lol.

 

And technically, every mediocre team in the NBA is a superstar away from contending.

I'd say Lowry has a lot of trade value as well. Honestly, I'm fine with the team being a top 4 team in the conference that has a small chance of getting to the finals. Think Pacers of a few year ago. I just want the Raptors to get a good coach.

 

If you do a rebuild/tank it can be 5-7 years before you even are able to compete. Even teams that tank properly like the Sixers can take 4-5 years to get an elite talent out of the draft.
