connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2020 Posted October 2, 2020 Nba playoffs have been much better than nhl. Maybe but Finals opener ratings were down 45% from last year (with the Raps as one of the teams). Lowest ever

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Miami has no chance right? Right
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 What a game for Butler! He's gonna have to do it a few more times too if Miami has any hope in hell.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I definitely stuck a fork in them before the first game. I wonder what the odds of them winning the series were prior to tonight. Probably really high obviously Still a long shot I guess

Happy with that as JB can blow a donkey. Can’t stand him. Looking at the box score and surprised AD only took 9 shots. Was talking about how aggressive his mentality was going to be. Give credit to the Heat coaches I guess for their scheme (I’m guessing)

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 LOL I just saw the highlight of LeBron getting actually called for a travel and him whining like a little bitch about it. What a baby.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 As much as I don't care for Butler or the Heat franchise in general, it would be hilarious to watch James pout in an upset loss and probably cause some Trust the Process 76ers moron fans' heads to explode. It would be second only to Hillary in the level of gifted victory and feeling on entitlement and blowing it in the end.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I'd root for any team that faces LeBron in the finals, but I agree this is going to be a gentleman's sweep. Heat have some key injuries and the Lakers have two of the top 5 players in the league. Chances of the Heat winning 4 out of 5 (now 3 out of 4) is very unlikely.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 3 days between games seems a bit excessive for a bubble you’d think

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 This is a bloodbath by the Lakers.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 This is a bloodbath by the Lakers. No surprise they came to play. If LeBron blew 3-1 lead when his team was clear favorite, his legacy would’ve been in ruins for the foreseeable future
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 I wonder if Danny Green will even enjoy this. Back to back rings but he choked on the way...
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 (edited) So they’ll prob make Bron and AD Co-MVP just because they will. Edit- I was wrong:) Edited October 12, 2020 by connorp
Beans Verified Member Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Two less expensive players who by advanced metrics played as well as George this season and a net of 6 first round draft picks is what the Clippers paid to get Kawhi and meet his demand of trading for George. When are GMs in the NBA going to get control of their own teams? This is exactly right. The NBA is too much of a players' league.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 This is exactly right. The NBA is too much of a players' league. Idk. I guess LeBron is the extreme example but look at his history. Cleveland doesn’t have to run their whole team around Lebrons wants anymore but look where it got them. Lakers were turning into Western version of Knicks and now they’re talking potential dynasty 2 years in You can drown Mike Trout on a bad team but in basketball, one mega star can make a huge difference, not only on the court but in getting other guys to come. LAC’s season was also hardly a failure. It was a big success in a lot of ways That was just playing devils advocate but I generally agree with you

LAC’s season was also hardly a failure. It was a big success in a lot of ways That was just playing devils advocate but I generally agree with you Oh, no doubt the game itself plays a role in making it a players' league—one superstar can make a huge difference—but I don't think I've ever seen so many GMs undermined for so long as I have in the NBA. I mean, you could argue a superstar in the NFL is huge, and can turn around a s***** team, and probably in the NHL (perhaps more so in the 90s than now...?), but for all the weight NFL and NHL superstars throw, it's not on the level of what goes on in the NBA. I think it's gotten to the point where GMs have very little control of their own teams.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 I don’t know hockey but I don’t think it’s true of the NFL except maybe a QB? ...but you draft those and they never make it to FA, unless you count Cousins lol.. which I don’t Star RBs, WRs, DBs, etc switch teams all the time and I don’t think it moves the needle really. Not one guy

Not one guy Yah, that's a good point. Football teams also have way more players than basketball teams, too, so that helps dilute some of the star power one player could have. In football I meant more the star QBs. Still, for all the franchise QBs I don't think they're on the level of string-pulling the GM like the way superstars in the NBA do and get away with. And I wouldn't like following a team that can have its multi-year plan abandoned by the whims of its star player.

NFL players have to deal with the franchise tag so franchise QBs can't do any string pulling even if they wanted to. NBA players are drafted to a team not of their choosing and if they're good they are contractually stuck on that team for 8 years so I can't blame them at all for trying to have some control over their futures.

Except that some are drafted to teams of their choosing, going back 25 years ago to when Kobe was drafted by the Lakers. I see your point, but I still think it's gotten out of hand with the way they demand to be teamed up with fellow superstars and how they undermine the GMs so publicly as well.
