Report: Raptors interested in DeAndre Jordan

http://www.rotoworld.com/images/headshots/NBA/1500.jpg

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Raptors "have tried to work their way into the DeAndre Jordan trade mix."

The Cavaliers are firmly in the mix and the Bucks are also rumored to be interested, but LAC's asking price is likely still very high. The Raptors would likely need a third team to help facilitate a deal, but if they are serious about adding Jordan, you would think Jonas Valanciunas goes elsewhere. No deal is imminent for now.

Sounds like he's basically an equal bust, but also a cheaper one.

Wow, these G-league guys sure make a lot of money. I imagine it's because both of them were first round picks?

I'm not really sure how the contracts work in the NBA in that respect.

So it looks like Malachai Richardson is owed 4M over the next two years, plus the remainder this year and Bruno just the remainder this year. So we're paying 4M to save 1M on the cap this year?

Scouting report"

: Nice size and well-built at 6-foot-6, which is prototypical for an NBA 2-guard ... Long and athletic ... Wingspan is a massive 7-foot ... Has the potential to fill out his frame nicely ... Versatile player, especially on the offensive end ... Has a smoothness to his game ... Capable of getting hot from three when in rhythm ... Can shoot off the dribble with his feet set ... Has an effective one-dribble (with either hand) pull-up jumper ... Has solid scoring instincts ... Capable of taking his man off the dribble ... Loves to take advantage of one-on-one situations ... Attacking style offensive player, making him a consistent threat to get to the rim ... Good at finding ways to slash and slither his way to the basket and finish ... When he gets to the rim, he's shown that he can finish in traffic and with either hand ... He can also finish through contact ... Effective scorer/finisher in transition ... Has a nice burst off the dribble ... Can play above the rim ... Has shown that he can facilitate an offense in the half-court ... His passing ability is a bit underrated ... Makes good use of an array or ball fakes ... Shows good lateral quickness on the defensive end ... His length, athleticism and competitiveness/effort makes him a great defender on the perimeter ... Does a great job playing the passing lanes and forcing turnovers ... Plays with passion and a high effort level ... Has a strong work ethic ... Even as a freshman, he displayed good leadership qualities and often led his teammates by example ...

Overall: Richardson, a former McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic selectee, averaged 13.3 points on 36 percent shooting, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while starting every game this season for Syracuse ... The freshman saw his draft stock rise after putting up a string of solid performances throughout the NCAA Tournament, including scoring 23 points – 21 in the second half – to lead the Orange to comeback victory over Virginia in the Elite Eight. He also scored 17 points in the team's Final Four loss to North Carolina. Although Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim often got on Richardson for his poor shot selection, he was able to make up for it by playing well when it mattered the most. In a nutshell, Richardson is an attacking guard and a streaky shooter who can shoot the lights out on any given night. If his ball-handling, decision-making and overall shooting consistency continues to improve then he can be terrific scorer at the next level. He's a bit of a raw talent but has a ton of upside and will likely get selected mid-to-late first round of this year's draft if he decides to not return for his sophomore season.

Jesus has Cleveland traded their entire roster except James and Love today?

You know James is gone at the end of the year too, so I think this is just Cleveland's way of saying they are tired of his 1 year commitments and trying to piece a team around him 1 year at a time.

I can't wait for James to become an actual GM and then have some whiny ******** superstar who thinks he runs the team.

I wonder when the last time was that neither DeMar or Kyle reached double digits in scoring (let alone us winning the game).

Our bench is playing more than the starters lately lol. And honestly they're doing a better job.

To be fair, they're usually playing against the other teams bench as well....

The last three games would indicate otherwise. The bench beat the Grizzlies, not the starters.

If you were Raptors GM would you trade some of those young guys for a star or leave the team as it is?

If the team is left as is, there's a good chance it'll get pounced in the playoffs for the reasons already discussed here. But the team is also set up to be above average for the next 5 years when the dominant teams start to fizzle out, except Boston which has the same competitive window as the Raptors.

If you trade for a top player, there's a good chance the Raptors become the #2 team, but are still miles behind #1. You mortgage that future for a reasonable shot at finals appearance....that lasts maybe 5 games.

It has to depend on the specific guy they are getting and the specific young dudes they're giving up.

I don't know a whole lot about basketball but I feel like Anunoby and Poeltl would both be a lot harder to give up than Wright or Siakam.

I'm not sure I'd want to give up Wright either. I think Powell and Siakam would be the two best choices. Maybe you could look at trading Ibaka, and letting Poeltl take that position if you really need to free up money, but then you're probably committed to keeping JV for the foreseeable future.

If they could get a Paul George or Giannis you move anyone.
