Of course the team is going to say nice things about JPA considering they have basically invested the future position on him. Even if its true that he has gotten better, its like going from downright brutal to now slightly below average. A improvement? Yes but really not something to get very excited about.

We're only paying J.P half a million, we have'nt invested much other than playing time.

They traded away 2 very highly rated catching prospects because we had JP and they have invested a contending team on his shoulders.

Were paying him half a million because thats really all he can make to this point.

JPAs arbitration hearing next year will be fun. He'll want a boatload of money cuz he hits HRs and AA will have to tell him about all his shortcomings.

Just use the mascot at C... Didn't someone compare his WAR with JP's, and it was virtually identical? I say go for it... His big head will surely be better at blocking balls than JP is

Not really. I can't see AA bring up AJJ yet, so we'll be stuck using JPA again... and again...

And the thing is JPA is gonna get paid through arbitration. Like it or not, arbitrators look at

and really admire old school stats; especially HRs and RBIs. And since it's rare for a catcher

to accumulate big HR and RBI totals, JPA is gonna get paid. Good thing it's just his 1st arb year.

You could make the argument that we traded D'Arnaud because we also have Jimenez and Nessy in the system. The Jays haven't signed J.P to a long term deal and if something better comes along it's easy to part with him.

Sure he has injury concerns but as of right now the guy is healthy and mashing and its not like I'm proposing they bring him up and give him the starters role. JPA is currently sporting a .245 OPB or something of that nature. Jimenez doesnt hit for much power and but hes shown a ability to make contact so him posting a similar OBP I think would be realistic. I'm not really sure where the .280 OBP number came from seeing its not even close to what JP is currently posting and his career OBP is a brutal .268.

The OBP # is a completely subjective number based on what I've seen from AJ so far. A .240/.280/.350 slash line would the top end of my expectations.

I wouldn't be for using AJ as a backup next season, he needs playing time more than a spot on an MLB roster. You could get a defensive specialist for cheap that would perform the same as AJ.

It's not just nice words. They traded d'Arnaud and passed on several far superior players last off-season. Things have changed but, of AA's actions point to JPA being the starter going forward.

I'm fully implanted on the AJ Jimenez bandwagon.

I've been on the Jimenez bandwagon for years. Even if everything goes right chances are he wont be as good as McCann or Ruiz and he isn't MLB ready.

I can't see any reason why going in to 2014 with AJ as the starter would be a good idea...

The Jays traded their top prospect, who by all accounts is MLB ready, because of a couple guys in A ball? Fat chance.

They traded them to get Dickey is the reason

Because they were going forward with JPA, it had absolutely nothing to do with Nessy or Jimenez.

And if J.P didn't work out they would still have Jimenez and Nessy.

These guys are 3-6 years away at the time of the trade. I don't even know what you are trying to argue, it makes no sense.

Great defense. Solid contact... yip. Why not?

Because Jays COTFs always fail. It's the kiss of death...

Now we can only hope that he gets converted to 1B and learns to hit homers a-la Carlos Delgado.

Jeff Hearron, Jeff DeWillis, Matt Stark, Randy Knorr, Sandy Martinez, Josh Phelps, Kevin Cash, Guillermo Quiroz, Robinson Diaz and JP Arencibia. That's without mentioning Delgado and Sprague.

Curtis Thegpan, or whatever his name was as well

Not entirely true but the fact that they wanted a veteran back up and the fact that AJ and TdA both had to be on the 40 man (and going back to last year Carlos Perez) was a factor that someone had to move. Nessy will probably be the next victim of the international rushing to the 40 man as he has to be added next year I believe. He's not worth taking up a 40 man spot, so he'll be exposed or dealt IMO.

I must have missed that - link please.

The supposed quote was "You're our guy". AA apparently called him during the leadup to the Dickey trade.
