Convo Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Nemesis is so underrated. Wasn't a 5 out of 5 star film by any means, but it was an enjoyable end to TNG. Some parts may have been good but the entire sub-plot about data and the B-4 version of data were so awful it made the entire movie unwatchable. The movie (and TNG as a whole) actually ends with Picard talking to a retarded version of data. It's no wonder it was Brent Spiner's first and last time with any tv/movie writing credits.

Get into the books, there's a great mini-series on Data's resurrection through B-4 and Dr. Soong.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) Maybe, just maybe, someone in this organization saw something in Happ and said "Hey I can work with that". They didn't want just *any* mediocre pitcher, they want *that* mediocre pitcher. I think that's exactly what happened and I think it was pretty dumb. They should have just played the percentages. Too much ego went into the decision. I could totally understand people's beef with Happ up until the end of spring training. But he's beaten everyone's expectations thus far and seems to be getting better. This is the first season where they've actually had some time to work with him, and this isn't a Chacin-like run of luck. When he can spot his pitches he is very good. Why mourn this trade when the Jays have been getting good production from Happ? Happ has been exactly what he was expected to be when they traded for him. No more, no less. Just because he lowered the bar for himself to an impossible degree with the dreadful spring training he had, doesn't mean we should be doing cartwheels over this 5th starter performance. He's useful but pretty mediocre and highly replaceable. That's what he was when the Jays acquired him and that's what he is now. It just so happens that for a while in the middle, he looked like even less than that. Trading for him was pretty pointless because he's just not the kind of assett that's worth trading for. I don't understand the urge to re-evaluate this trade and turn it into a positive every time he has a not garbage start. Edited July 3, 2014 by KingKat
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Aaron Laffey? Forget about the WAR for a minute here. The Jays are 8-4 in Happ's starts. Out of the 4 losses the team scored a combined total of 5 runs. Chances are they lose all 4 games no matter how bad Happ shits the bed or what pitcher they throw out there. In the 8 wins, 4 times they scored 7 runs, once they scored 5, once 4 and twice 3. If they throw out the normal band of shitheads or Todd Redmond out there, good chance they lose the two 3-run games and maybe the 4-run game while the 5-run game is a toss up. So yeah, pretty good chance they'd be battling .500 and not in first place. 2012 Laffey the team was 7-9 in his starts (three of which he gave up no runs). 2013 Redmond, Jays were 7-7 in his starts. He gave up more than three runs in just 2 of those starts and less than 3 runs in 8 starts. 2013 Redmond pitching in Happ's starts the team would likely be above .500. Right now he's getting GB's and the Velocity is up a few ticks. If the Velo drops he's got little to fall back on and I don't trust him to even be the average guy he is right now.
Key22 Verified Member Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 At the risk of nerding myself, f***. All my baseball cred is gone now. Mine is gone too and worse - I will be flying to Vegas in July to go to the Star Trek Convention (never been to one and going to play poker in Vegas and when I saw the convention I thought what the heck. I am not an uber fan that knows the names of every episode but I have seen all the Original, TNG, DS9, Voyager episodes and all the movies. So I figure - once in a lifetime kind of thing. It's apparently the biggest one they've done so at least going at the right time. I only wish Patrick Stewart was going - I liked him all the way back to when he was in I, Claudius. Pretty impressive number of the cast going from each of the series. Besides there's a chance you take home a Klingon chick - and how can you pass that up? http://www.creationent.com/cal/st_lasvegas.html#menu
