G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 He likely calls him up soon if Romero continues pitching well and if he can be half decent AA should flip him in the winter. Yep. If we stay 8-10 games out of wildcard you might as well call him up. If he's good it builds his trade value, if he's bad it doesn't matter for this year and at least you know he's probably a lost cause.
Cello Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Romero is a warrior, it is good to see him progressing. We need his arm and leadership on the field. You mean temper tantrum and distraction in the dugout? LOL
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Isn't Romero free to sign with any other team since he was taken off the 40-man roster? I thought I read something like that somewhere. Maybe he had to decide at that moment. Jays would still be on the hook for his contract.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 If Romero had five years of service (he has exactly four), the team would have needed his consent to outright him off the 40-man. If he said no, they'd have to release him or keep him with the ML team. Alright, thanks. I didn't remember the details.
GNick Verified Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Wilner said today Romero 6 of last 7 starts been quality starts
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 6 of his last 10 too, which isn't the best rate considering how bad the 4 non-QSs were. Wilner doesn't understand that arbitrary endpoints are misleading; best to use the full sample. Romero needs a couple more good starts in Buffalo IMO. Arbitrary end points with all else being equal are misleading, but I'm not sure they are in Romero's case as it appears he's getting his confidence and command back. I do think however that he should get at minimum 3 to 5 more starts down there before even considering bringing him up, and coming up in September would be even better.

I don't think he should be back until September or next year.

I think the best point to pick is the point where Romero went back to his old mechanics. That's not an arbitrary moment at all. It's a moment where he went back to something comfortable vs something that clearly wasn't working. Romero has had 6 quality starts out of 8 since that point and one of those non quality starts was 5 and 2/3rds with 3 runs given up so a third of an inning from making it 7 of 8 quality starts...with a 3.12 ERA over that stretch...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 A good Ricky for 8 weeks on the big league club would be fantastic. But I don't even dare to dream...
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 So it's taken a year of dating with this new girl for Ricky to forget about Miss America. Good ol' demons.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Ricky pitched Sunday and buffalo is in a break and doesn't play again till Thursday. Ricky is slated to pitch on Thursday on 3 days rest. Why would they do this? The Jays first game back is Friday. I think if Romero has a good outing on Thursday he's the number 5 starter for the Jays coming out of the allstar break. Why else would you pitch Romero on 3 days rest in AAA?

Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 FFS. Has Dickey syndrome. Man Romero is toast. The s***** thing is were stuck with his contract.
Clojojo Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 can we please send this guy to high A or something, let him have those brutal busrides throughout the midwest if we are still going to pay him my as well make him hate his job
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 To be fair he was scratched from his start on Saturday due to illness and apparently he isn't over it yet, still looked sick. Not sure how much that played into it but he did have an ERA under 3 this month prior to this start

admin Site Manager Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 God he's been so inconsistent... horrible one start, great the next, wtf I don't consider 3BB a good start, when his number one goal is probably to walk no one.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Yup. If he really is a Major League calibre starter, he should be tearing through the International League. A good Romero is walking 3-3.5/9
SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Would rather have Romero up instead of JJ.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Well maybe you re right, but at the same time I want to give Romero one last chance this year so we don't waste any starts on him next year.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 The season is over for Us. Call up Romero, he could gain confidence and be an option for 2014.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 God he's been so inconsistent... horrible one start, great the next, wtf In the game of baseball, "inconsistent" tends to just be a euphemism for "bad".
Arkadium Verified Member Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 In the game of baseball, "inconsistent" tends to just be a euphemism for "bad". True enough, if even Jo-Jo f***ing Reyes can have a complete game, one-off good start means pretty much nothing.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Yikes. Someone needs to find him some Miss America that's also a shrink on the side lol. On the plus side, Gose is having a really nice game.
