DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Lohse is a really interesting target. I can see MIL wanting to get out from under that contract in a hurry, could be decent value there.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 After the gut job on the farm system and the dismal april I'm prepared to stand Pat and use the guys coming off the DL like Morrow and Happ Happ isn't close and Morrow might be out for the season and Rogers really only has about 60 innings remaining in his season. AA almost has to add a starter. Garza, Feldman or Norris would be helpful.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Now if AA really really wants to go all-in and has some trade magic remaining, Jake Peavy is available! He's tried to obtain him before and was close. He might just try again! * It looks like he'll be back before the end of July btw. He is playing catch.

(opens up a 40-man spot, right?)
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'd love to add Peavy! Probably one of the few top end guys that wouldn't cost Sanchez to bring in.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Unless suddenly Wang and Rogers go bust, i don't see what we can get by going after a starter, unless maybe it's Cliff Lee.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Unless suddenly Wang and Rogers go bust, i don't see what we can get by going after a starter, unless maybe it's Cliff Lee. Again, Rogers won't be starting for long. His arm can't take it. He has already surpassed his innings total for all of last season and he pitched Winter Ball too. At most, the very most he'll hit 120 innings this year. That would mean his season will end with 2 months to go.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 And Pete Walker was on the radio just a few days ago expressing concerns that Rogers will hit a dead arm stage soon and said that they are watching him closely. The team needs another starter.

That would mean his season will end with 2 months to go. He's at 54.2 innings, so he's still 24 innings away from what he pitched last season (78.2 innings). He also pitched 83 in 2011, and 72 in 2010.

Even so, 120 is about as high as he can go and that's probably 20 innings generous.

Hopefully they have an arm to take over after that. *Edit: Actualy, it's probably seven or eight. I can't do maths in my head today. I need more coffee.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Surely to God we get an arm or two off the DL by then... Lets be honest here. What's more likely? We get a starter off the DL by late July or a current one gets injured before then? We won't have Morrow or Happ back by then. Romero is looking like the next option and he isn't even on the 40-man roster.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Surely to God we get an arm or two off the DL by then... I would certainly hope so.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Right now the options are Romero, Jenkins and Nolin and maybe in a few weeks you can add McGowan's name if he stretches out into a long man as hoped.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Drabek will strictly be relieving during his first year back from his second Tommy John Surgery. Hutchison will be lucky to make it back by September. They aren't options.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 The reality is we need more starters. How long can the hot bull pen hold down the fort? It really is ranked 25th in MLB if you use FIP. Traditional stats say 4th best. Hmmm...
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Has the Drabek move to the BP been announced? I know it is highly speculated but, an official confirmation would be nice. Announced? No. It's a second TJ surgery. That's what everyone does during the first year back. Ok, it's like 97%.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It's crazy. AA got THREE new starters this off season (well, a net of two since he dealt Alvarez) and we're STILL short arms. It's crazy. They're right. You can never have too much pitching.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Speaking of whom - Henderson Alvarez has yet to throw a single pitch for the Marlins this year. Still on the DL.

With the Cubs, White Sox and Marlins trying to sell early to get more value, shoppers can't wait for Christmas Eve.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 No shocker. With the Cubs, White Sox and Marlins trying to sell early to get more value, shoppers can't wait for Christmas Eve. Yep. Hopefully Phillies realize soon that they're sellers too. Utley, Lee, Young...
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Add Darwin Barney to the list of available players. The Cubs will trade anyone at this point apparently.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 He's supposed to be back soon and the Marlins are looking to trade Nolasco to give him a rotation spot. To the Dodgers in 48 hours!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 To the Dodgers in 48 hours! As a Southern California native, Nolasco would naturally prefer to pitch on the West Coast, notes MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. The interest from the NL West bodes well for that goal, though the Red Sox scouted Nolasco's last start, writes Frisaro. Nolasco's opinion on being a walking trade rumor? "Whatever happens, happens," he told Frisaro.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'm surprised the Dodgers are adding pieces giving their position in the standings now. On a side note, count me in for another vote to somehow swing an Utley/Lee coup out of Philly.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Has there been any talk of moving McGowan back into the rotation? When he made his last comeback, they did that, stating the more consistent work was better for him.
