KSaw Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I will say this, if we catch another injury or end up with a doubleheader makeup and need a spot start, I'd love to see them give it to Austin Bibens-Dirkx. He is not a real prospect and likely hasn't much of a MLB future, if one at all but for 1 game I'd be sneaky and use him. His multiple release points, sometimes sidearm and his offspeed stuff is generally baffling to hitters until they see him a few times. He is having a very good year but he is 28 at AA and has had trouble in the past at the AAA level. Again, not a real prospect, well maybe as a reliever but he's nothing special. But, for one sneaky start and a likely outcome of 5-7 very easy innings as hitters try to figure him out, absolutely!

Austin Bibens-Dirkx does not even sound like a real name. I really can't think of a worse candidate to get a start. Edited June 19, 2013 by eastcoastjaysfan
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 And my dumbass picked him to be a cy young candidate. f*** was I off. He pitches like a pussy tho. Jays need to hire Jose molina to be his life coach when he retires.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 No surprise if the rumors are true. This also explains why his velocity was up and down earlier in the year and his overall suckage. Sometimes injuries are there, but take a while to fully flare up. At least Dickey, JJ and Buehrle are still standing and Happ is starting to throw again. We'll see what happens.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well if Morrow does get shut down for the year then AA may be looking to acquire another big arm by the deadline unless Wang/Rogers secure their spots over the next few weeks.

If there was no "r" in his last name I would be all for it... He would fit in perfectly with out rotation. But unfortunately there is an "r" so he has to be out.

AA should be looking for a long term starter to settle the 2014 rotation anyways. If we learned anything from last off-season it is that building a team takes time and a GM needs to slowly add pieces while they are available.

Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Team will be buyers if we are as close to the wildcard as we are now, I think come trade deadline.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 What can we get for Lawrie??? A whole hell of a lot I'm sure. Lawrie++ for Headley and Hedges
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well if Morrow does get shut down for the year then AA may be looking to acquire another big arm by the deadline unless Wang/Rogers secure their spots over the next few weeks. Cliff Lee common down

I think if he does go after a SP it will be someone who is under contract for 2014 as well, or he may look to extend as part of a deal. I don't think he would risk more prospects and then have that SP and JJ walk.

If Lawrie was performing like he did when first coming up then sure. But now he looks like a massive headcase that cant stay healthy.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I should have been specific. It was Jeff Blair saying this. Said no one would go on the record right now but they're very worried about Brandon.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Cliff Lee common down If Philly picks up some of the salary maybe. Lee is owed $25M for 2014 and 2015 and has an option for 2016 @ $27M with a $12.5M buyout. The option becomes guaranteed if he reaches 200IP in 2015 or 400IP in 2014 & 2015. That is a lot of salary for one player. I just don't think its realistic unless Rogers promises like $50M more towards payroll.

Hopefully its something where he can still come back for the last couple months when this team may need a big boost.

But unfortunately there is an "r" so he has to be out. Plus his name is not an adjective for "penis" so he's got that working against home too...

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 A long term rotation fixture has to be the goal this deadline IMO. I agree. We can't count on Morrow to ever pitch a full season it seems, JJ will likely be gone, and who knows if Romero ever gets back to the bigs. That just leaves 3 guys in Dickey, Buehrle and Happ who look like they will be in the rotation mix for next season (not counting Rogers or Wang). Plus Wang is a FA after this season as well. We also will have Hutch but he may need some more time in the minors next season before he is ready after coming off injury.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 If we're just going to go all-in... Lee is definitely someone interesting to target. Doubt that much money will be available though. It's Amaro so we could probably get something built around JPA plus a few of the better arms in the system.

Then it's a bunch of guys best used as depth; Happ Hutchison Stroman Romero Nolin Jenkins McGuire Drabek Rogers Definitely seems like they could use an arm...
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Maybe Esmil Rogers actually isn't a true piece of s*** gascan and is actually semi-legit. He used to primarily throw the 4 seamer and is now throwing a 2 seamer with much more regularity... and is having great success. This might not be a fluke. Maybe it is. But maybe it isn't.

I can see him flaming out after 15 or so starts like Carlos V. I hope I am wrong but I can't see him having the durability to keep it going for an entire season.

Start preparing as if Rogers/Lind is a fluke, Morrow will be hurt and the entire pitching staff is made of glass. That's the kind of depth needed to contend.

That's the kind of depth needed to contend. Rogers not really a fluke but will not keep up this pace.... Lind however I don't see it. He started getting in trouble the last couple years because he was trying to pull everything (Thanks Cito/Dm) but now he is going the other way a lot especially off of LHP. I think he is a .300 hitter with 25HR I don't think it is a Fluke that he is doing this.

They are totally different pitchers, so maybe not.
