ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 That's where guys like Juan Perez, thad webber, Todd redmond and Mickey storey get dfa'd and whoever has options ges sent down until a deal is made Yeah, no doubt, I see a deal being made. Too bad for Perez, he and Wagner have done a good job, but I'm sure another team will give him a chance to try and prove his performance this year isn't a fluke.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Rasmus is confounding the issue by playing better than expected (so far). He's reeled in the strikeout rate and he's already at 2 WAR after just 65 games. He could tap the production brakes a bit and still have a 4 win season. Of course, I guess we're all kind of expecting him to slump hard in the 2nd half again. If I was at the helm, I'd have half a mind to go into 2014 with Rasmus the nominal CF and Gose on the bench. Bautista and Melky are both rapidly losing their range and the health of their legs. And on top of that, Rasmus is a flake. Having a guy like Gose right there on the 25 man, ready to step in and chase balls down, would be pretty key. Trading Rasmus or Gose for a 2B is also a viable route though. Then you could just sign a guy like Chris Young, and make him your 4th OF and full time player against LHP (DH or CF platoon) What good 2nd is out there? The best option is probably to just trade for a cheap guy like Brendan Ryan, have a stud defender at SS and keep Rasmus. Melky really needs to stop embarrassing himself out there. He's past the point of become close to a Thames/Juan Rivera clone out there

Unless you count Utley, like we need even more durability problems. Maybe the Cubs would want Gose for Starlin Castro or something?

backontop Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 OK I admit it, instead of winning 100 games this year, we will probably win 93, but wait til next year!
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I think Wagner stays. AA loves guys that throw hard Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest that Wagner would be DFA'ed, just lumped him with Perez because they were called up together. He's earned his spot and Gibbons seems to trust him.

He's past the point of become close to a Thames/Juan Rivera clone out there I'm not sure if there are any "good" 2B out there, but there are definitely names. Logan Forsythe, maybe? Danny Espinosa? Ackley is still kind of a pipe-dream buy low, I suppose. I would be all for getting Brendan Ryan on the cheap and telling Reyes to play 2B. Not happening though, and I wouldn't be interested in playing Ryan at 2B. I'm not exactly worried about Melky, yet. It still looks like he can really, really hit the baseball (for AVG). Hopefully once he gets some power back in his hammies, the pop and the D will tick up.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Logan Forsythe, maybe? Rasmus for Forsythe + Hedges?
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Rasmus for Forsythe + Hedges? lmao, SD would hang up and block AA's number. Hedges is their top prospect, a stud.

Saki hits as good . Melky is hurt . Give him 15 days off when Reyes comes back and he should improve .

Maybe a guy like Erlin or someone? Maybe you could get like, Burch Smith and Forsythe for Rasmus and a lesser piece. I don't really think Rasmus would have a lot of appeal to them though. They'd likely prefer Gose, even though Maybin is locked into CF for the next 3 years. Big outfield, Gose is cheaper and has more control. Although I don't find it extremely likely that Gose will ever be better than Will Venable. I don't really know, lol.

He's already at -1.3 WAR and ZIPS projects him to provide ZERO wins for the rest of the year.

He's past the point of become close to a Thames/Juan Rivera clone out there For prospects (who may or may not be available), Wong and Profar come to mind. Perhaps Beckham from the Rays (not convinced he'd be better than Boni). Rendon or Franklin might have been nice, but neither is likely available (possibly Rendon if the Nats get really desperate for something I suppose). Castellanos would be a possibility at 3rd with Lawrie moving to 2nd. For non-prospects, it seems pretty thin other than Ackley and possibly Murphy.

I think he is what he is and that is a streaky hitter who will look horrible at times but overall can be a plus for this or any other team. The problem is as many have pointed out, not many options at 2B via trade. I highly doubt AA would even entertain moving Rasmus at the deadline, more likely in the winter in an attempt to restructure this team if at all. Gose on the other hand could be a possibility at the deadline or next winter. It really comes down to where the Jays are at and if they can keep it close someone important from our farm is getting moved. That being said, its tough to speculate without knowing what injuries might occur between now and the deadline. That will certainly influence what AA might target.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 lol wow. Probably my all time favourite common typo.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 doesn't Espinosa scream an AA guy...2B with Power who is struggling. Returning from injury has an option or two left. At least he's good defensively but with the Nats struggles they need to stick with Rendon IMO. Luckily we are a bad fit for them as I don't think they want anything we'd give. Although their super utility (Lombardozzi) is struggling worse than Boni.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 lol wow. Prior to 1983 things were different. Once Holiday came out it all changed.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I'd much prefer to dump Melky for whatever we can get at the deadline and go with Gose/Gump in the OF.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 At the start of the season the bulk of this fanbase wanted Lind , JPA , Cecil and to a lesser degree Rasmus Gone . Lind is hitting and getting on base better than anyone else on this team . Cecil is the best reliever on this team . Rasmus is coming around . Still K,s too much but his average is improving Only JPA continues to struggle And the darlings , Morrow has been s*** . Lawrie has been s*** Funny how baseball works . Nope and nope. I stated several times that Lind was not a mirage during Spring Training and even said that his new trigger would allow him to better hit lefties. I also pointed to Cecil bringing back his 4-seam fastball as a reliever and liked his chances now that he was back to what made him such a huge success in college.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I still think that Rasmus has one of the best left handed line drive swings I've ever seen, though I hate how early he commits. I still want Arencibia gone!
