OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I can't see Ellsbury getting more then 5-6 years.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I don't think he'll get the BJ Upton deal. Ellsbury hasn't been an impact player since 2011. Maybe 4/55 or 5/65. BJ Upton shouldn't have gotten the BJ Upton deal. He's not an impact player either.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 oh right because you win games when you don't bat in runs right lol Bro? I was agreeing with you spittincock!
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 BJ Upton shouldn't have gotten the BJ Upton deal. He's not an impact player either. I was thinking 5/60 or 6/70.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Flip Bautista for Profar. Bautista is a big downgrade to a Gose/Rasmus+someone platoon (Maybe -3 WAR or more), but Profar is probably just as big of an upgrade at 2B over Mouser/Bonehead. Profar the better asset and long term piece by far. With the 14M in yearly savings, sign Brian McCann. Trade JPA for depth pitching. Some team might maybe give up a Happ type arm, with options. Massive profits! Mccann is going to be tough to sign with the yankees and dodgers in play, he will also be tendered so we will most likely have to give a 1st round pick which could be fairly high depending on bickford, our pick next year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I was thinking 5/60 or 6/70. Really depends how he finished out the year. He's on pace for over 5 WAR right now. What if he somehow stays healthy and hits .300/.370 with 70 stolen bases? Then he'd get paiiiiiiiiid. Or he could break a rib tomorrow and not get paid.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Neither. Both will get huge deals taking them to their late 30s. I want no part of that. Zobrist on the other hand... my boner would not subside. Fair enough. Zobrist would be epic on just so many levels. Trading Bautista for Profar then Buehrle for (pitching depth or some s***) would clear up, what, $32mm in salary? That could be huge.

Oh, it's all just a pipe dream. Don't worry. No delusions here.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 The only guy over 30 thats untouchable is Eddie, imo.

I would think that even if that Bickford pick carried, it'd be protected.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Spittin says why is it so hard to understand that Baustita has sold so many tickets and helped Rogers Cable make so much money: The fans don't get paid any profits that Rogers makes. Most fans think the number of home runs a player hits makes him the best player. Now if the fans got sent a $10,000 cheque for finishing in first place(all of them), your comment might make some degree of since, as the more tickets and uniforms we sold the bigger the pay out. Otherwise all we fans care about is WINS! We are tired of being the laughing stock of the A.L. East.......Year after year celler dwellers.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Zobrist is the kind of guy who may slip through the cracks too. He doesn't hit for a high average, steal many bases, or hit tons of homers. You'd be talking proabbly his age-34 to 36 or 37 seasons, and there may not be a huge bidding war for him due to the unsexy way in which he contributes wins. Unfortunately, AA probably sees him as a fringy starter. AA will sign him for 1 year at age 38 or 39 as the "glue guy" right?

Which is possible, because he's really, really white.

Maybe if he didnt play for the Rays his own team may overlook him, but Maddon is in love with the guy and probably will plead with Freidman to find a way to keep the guy
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Mozeliak has like a dozen guys sitting in the minors who could hit .290 right now in the Majors lol, no need for Zobrist. Fair enough but I don't think that there won't be any bidding wars for him. That was an epic double negative.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 The Rangers aren't going to trade Profar for Bautista because they are a well run club.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Maybe the Mets, Mariners, Cubs or Dodgers. Also, the Twins aren't stat-savvy but they have money and could really use Zobrist. I was thinking Cubs and Dodgers myself. Theo's shown a willingness to spend.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 hypothetical trade threads are fun...but when you miss the first 9 pages of the thread, it just makes your head hurt. There is a lot I disagree with in this thread, some that I agree with but BTS is the most correct (others said it too) it won't happen as AA doesn't have the balls. Lets deal with possible trades.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Dodgers will probably sign Zobrist or Cano. Cubs makes so much sense. If Theo likes Zobrist they'll probably get him. Theo's smart and saw Zobrist first hand when he was with the Red Sox. Fully expect them to get him.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 AA can't really sell now, he's dug himself a hole. I'd definitely entertain a Bautista for Profar swap but that move gets AA fired. He also can't really keep buying.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 He also can't really keep buying. His buying days are long over. Swinging either one of J.J., Buerhle or Dicke buys us alittle room though. Though I highly doubt AA trades Mr. Marketable Dickey.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 IF Olt's drop in numbers (and range) this year are due to an injury he's playing through (which is likely), and IF we think he can stick at 3rd.... You don't know much about Olt, do you?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 We can debate this until the cows come home, but really the odds of AA moving Bautista, let alone for someone unproven, are pretty much zero. I think it would be rad if Alex just kept all the players we currently have until they retire and get nothing in return. Fans f***ing love players that stick around and retire.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Wow that's gotta be some kind of a record. What? Referencing something like its new info', a month + after the fact?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Bautista's been here for the majority of the time I've *Seriously* followed the Jays so it'd be tough. I would still do it though. Doc, I shed a few manly tears. Roy was here for just over a year while Bautista's been here. You were upset that quick?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 You don't know much about Olt, do you? I forgot about his eye issues, but his defense and range this year have also been horrible. Maybe that is also related to the eyes, I don't know. It could also be related to the ton of injuries he seems to have gone through. I'm not sure it's a given he sticks at 3rd.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 This thread sure has got a lot of comments. Since we think Profar is the next Robinson Cano, and I'm guilty of that, and Texas think Baustita is Roberto Clemente, I say we make the trade ASAP. Profar is not even first string, Texas would have liked to waste him another year in the minors so they wouldn't have to pay him a huge contract for one year later, but injury to Texas regular second baseman forced them to bring him up.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I thought there was no way Texas wasn't going to make the playoffs.... now.... it's not going to be easy for them. They are really struggling at the plate.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Roy was here for just over a year while Bautista's been here. You were upset that quick? I put emphasis on seriously. Even as a dumb casual (opposed to a dumb serious fan) I knew Doc's significance and was quite upset to see him go.
