gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I didn't get his name but he was entertaining the thought of obtaining Bautista for Profar on the Fan. He said the Rangers need another middle of the order bat and would love to get Bautista. He said the Rangers would and most likely and will entertain talks involving Profar. He also mentioned Eithier and Stanton as potential targets. Interesting..
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Rangers definitely need to do something. They're one piece away from being a true World Series favourite, and have too many good middle infielders. Yep. I'm shocked they didn't trade one of Andrus, Kinsler and Profar this off season They need another big bat and they could use an upgrade to the rotation Profar gives them their biggest return so...

The Texas media is in love with Kinsler as well. They'd never suggest for him to be the one shipped out.

I like Bautista but this frees up 14mm and gives us a big bat to plug in at second base for the next 6 years, and at short whenever Reyes is injured. Sign Choo in the off season to play right field. Reyes Profar Choo Encarnacion Cabrera Lind Lawrie Rasmus Arencibia

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 the offseason could be too late for them. Look trade deadline I meant this past off season Maybe they were worried about Profar's hit tool before he had more MLB experience. But it seems fine.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Double win. Profar + Robbie Ross for Bautista (AA perfect deal Scheppers RP + Ross RP + Tepesch for Bautista)
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Double win. Hahaha I should've expected a shot at AA with that one! TBH if AA is moving Bautista he needs to get more than Profar back. Either the Rangers need to take on future salary or give up some more value. The Jays are multiple pieces away at this point, simply swapping our best player for Profar wont turn this ship around.

Not if you're influenced by Andrew Freidman's business model... gotta keep turning over the talent. The true genius does it by getting max value for your players... James Shields-type deals where the return is a franchise player. Not saying I'd do the deal, but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to seeing what's there. Maybe throw Olt into the package and we'll add something...yada, yada, yada
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Trade Bautista asap and get tbe best return possible. He doesnt have many years left and a guy like Profar would definitely improve this team.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 What a tempting deal. Bautista probably has a few solid seasons left, but for an organization that is incapable of drafting/developing their own players to get a major league ready guy in Profar, and free up money to boot, well, it's interesting. Not that AA would ever have the cojones to do this.

It's not that AA shouldn't look to retool, perhaps using some of his stars as trade chips. It's that Rogers trusted AA to go out and build a contender. If he sells off the guys he bet on it will be as if he doesn't believe in himself anymore and a hit to Rogers' confidence in him. If he goes that route the team would have to perform well next year in order for AA to avoid the axe. Now if AA were to get Profar+ for Bautista, the question becomes what could he get for a healthy Reyes as Profar's natural position is SS. I know the Cards are looking to get MIF help and could be interested in an AS SS. Perhaps AA could land Taveras or Miller + for him. I don't know about you guys but, I'd be all for moving Bautista and Reyes for Profar, Taveras ++ and re-investing that freed-up payroll space on pitching and another bat (a better catcher preferred).
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 IF Olt's drop in numbers (and range) this year are due to an injury he's playing through (which is likely), and IF we think he can stick at 3rd, then something like Rasmus for Olt (as the principals) could be pretty intriguing. Would free up Gose for the OF, and Lawrie could move to 2nd when Olt came up.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 If AA manages to get profar, all faith will be restored
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I know it would never happen but if we blew it up: Bautista and Johnson for Jurickson Profar (SS) and Rougned Odor (2B), then Jose Reyes to St. Louis for Oscar Tavares. We'd lop around 35mm-40mm off the payroll too.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I would trade Bautista for him straight up for sure. No brainer. It is a brainer. In 2011, if we swapped JB for Hosmer, Moose, and Montgomery.. that would have looked better on paper than this deal would.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 If AA manages to get profar, all faith will be restored JJ + Bautista for Olt + Profar + Ross + Alfaro + Martin Perez
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 If they took MB and we had to maybe chip something else in, I would be down with that. Really hard to lose the deal that way.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I would do that in a heart beat. Free up cash, and have Profar and Reyes up the middle. However like most people said AA would have to have Balls to do it. Most on here would love it but the "casual" fans would just be raging and as much as I hate to admit it Toronto has a lot of them Casuals kicking around.

Just because someone isn't prospect crazy doesn't mean they are automatically uninformed casuals. Prospects are high risk no matter how awesome their raw tools look. I'm open to moving JB.. but I would like to see Dickey and JJ moved.. both have the chance to get a Top 25 type guy if they can pitch well until the deadline. Maybe move Casey if he get a nice return. Start forming a plan for the team, then move your most valuable piece. Profar does nothing right not to change the direction of the franchise in the next few years.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 We think Adam Dunn and Vernon Wells have come back to hurt us? Imagine how much Jose Bautista will beast against us if he gets traded to the Rangers...

Edit: I recognize this is an unanswerable question...
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Profar's value comes from being a shortstop. Shortstop value > 2nd base. Unless we're shipping Reyes somewhere else, I don't see how this benefits us to be worthwhile.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Plus, the Rays do it with a year to a year and a half remaining on contracts and still get great returns. We own Bautista for 3 more years after this at reasonable $. That's worth more.

You aren't getting a Syndergaard or d'Arnaud back and you're going to have to give up assets (payroll or player(s)) to fill those innings anyways. AA needs to add to the core of Jose + Reyes + Morrow + Dickey + Lawrie. If he moves one of the Joses he needs to bring back MLB ready stars.
