Premote him to AAA next season and maybe we see him in the majors mid year.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Management has no more excuses on JPA. They were basically living on the premise that JP had some untapped offensive ability and he could be a stud in this regard. After his hot start hes back to being a brutal player who cant take a walk and always K's and to top it off hes arguably the worst defender at his position in the league. The sooner they cut ties with this guy or even massively reduce his playing time the sooner we become a really good team. I think it's possible that JPA ups his walks over the course of time as he goes on in his career, but even if he does... he's still very bad defensively at the position he plays, and a few more walks per year isn't going to change his overall value because of that fact. As a catcher, his D will also improve, but even with slow marginal improvement over time, he would only get be an average defensive catcher by the time he's 30+, at which point his bat would go south and he'd still be an overall liability as an everyday player.
digiblader Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Wei Yen Chen is heading for the DL--he suffered an oblique strain. Bit of a blow to the Orioles pitching staff. We probably won't see him when the Orioles come in about a week and a half.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I like Loup. Now time for boni to get the triple!
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 It could also be that the fastballs he's facing today have been 88-91, rather than 93+, therefore that hitch is just not causing to be late on the slower FB You gotta start somewhere. He just needs to be calmer at the plate hopefully Mottola gets him there permanently
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 E-Jax style, 150 pitches and 10BB's 7 pitches in the 6th. No-No still intact and a quick inning to boot.

He's actually not a horrible defensive catcher. He certainly used to be, but he's improved to be about middle of the pack. I think he's about middle of the pack in pitch framing too. What he really needs to do is stop swinging at balls, especially when he already has 3 of them.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Interesting fact, so far today the Jays have only managed to get 3 runners in scoring position.

Even his biggest fan Greg Zaun has started to call him out on it because he could take no more biased defending of the guy. Middle of the pack pitch framing wise?

I'm not sure, unless the catchers in the NL are much worse, I don't see many catchers worse than JP...
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 What a game so far! I love this new lineup from Gibby #CraftyGibbons
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Middle of the pack pitch framing wise? Mike Fast says he cost us like 16 runs from pitch framing, but I dunno, he's looked better this year and we're near the top of expected/actual strikes ratio so I'd think he's improved at least slightly.

That doesnt mean much. Its almost like dating a girl whos a 3, dumping her to date a 5. JP might have improved but its still nowhere near acceptable when you factor in he's no good offensively.

At least he's slightly trending upwards, but damn he's bad.
