In one post you managed to construct a false narrative about Profar being a #1 draft pick and then compare the minor league numbers of two players with an age gap larger than 4 years. Awful, awful post.

I stated the age-gap from the beginning. I stated that I would get scolded, you proceed to do as just that. You're becoming as grumpy as ECJF.

one caller last night suggested that the Jays should encourage a special rivalry with the Rays. He suggested that the Rogers Centre hold a special night where a real life Blue Jay ( bird) would fight with a Sting Ray from Tampa. There would be two part series whereby the Blue Jay would have a special iron man suit to be able to fight the sting ray in water. Part 2 would be the Ray fighting the blue Jay on Land. The caller suggested the Blue Jay would kill the Sting Ray in the water. Wilner went along with the caller & said a tech company could sponser the event. The caller said if the Blue Jay killed the Sting ray , the rays would change the team name to the Ray Jays. If not, the Blue Jays would change their name to the Blue Rays. There was no word whether Bud Selig would approve animal fights to the death before an mlb game.

So the Blue Jay in water is covered, but how's the manta ray supposed to do anything on land? May I suggest strapping mini uniforms on a couple Roosters and we have a good old fashioned cock fight on the pitchers mound?

So somebody finally called Wilner out for his constant passing of cherrypicked data/arbitrary samples as analysis:

The record analysis with/without the Yankees results would be dumb enough if they were facing the great teams of the late 90s. Doing it for a team that is as old and broken down as the Jays are is even dumber.

Technically he never said he wanted Redmond as a 5th starter next year... just said he wouldn't mind if he was.... which if you have 4 other good starters (which they don't) would be ok.

He'd be fine depth, good for a spot start here and there.

Posted
No.....it would not be okay. Redmond has 5th starter would be a disaster. I'm not sure if you missed the game tonight but man was it brutal. He got beat up by the Astros, it was incredible to watch.

Say right now, our rotation next season will be

Dickey

Johnson(not for sure, just for this)

Buehrle

Morrow

#5starter.

Options for #5 (in house, there are also free agents) are Stroman, Hutch, Drabek, Happ, Nolin, and Redmond in no particular order.

I find it pathetic that you think it would be okay for Redmond to be 5th starter next year.

Not many teams have 5th starters that don't get rocked on occasion.

Redmond is not a Major League pitcher. He's fine to make a couple spot starts a year, but nothing more than that. Probably a true-talent 5.50 ERA guy, which is terrible in today's environment.

Why embrace a terrible baseball player?

I'm really only comfortable with Dickey, Happ and Buehrle going in to next season but, not as front-end starters. This rotation needs a couple more pieces. Hopefully some combination of Hutch, Drabek, and Morrow can fill out one of those spots. IMO AA needs to find at least one more starter, preferably a front end guy, to get this team back in contention. It will be a failed off-season if he doesn't. At least with Stroman, Nolin, Hutch, Drabek, Rogers, and Redmond the Jays actually have decent injury insurance.

Wilner has finally conceded that Josh Johnson won't get a 7 year 150 million contract from the Jays. He said that Johnson & Rajai Davis won't be back & that 2B needs to be upgraded. Wilner wants t shirts printed that say #Don't blame Gibbons for the fans that ant a scapegoat. Wilner now says that the status quo for 2014 won't be enough for a playoff calibre team.

If Redmond is terrible then JA Happ must be atrocious.

How the f*** does Todd Redmond have a better xFIP than JA Happ? Seriously guys, what the f***?

Cause some guys give up lots of runs despite having acceptable BB and HR rates.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2013 Toronto Blue Jays. Wow.

Which is part of the reason I'd like him here next year. The K's and BB's are just so good.

This is my favorite all time Jays Talk caller. Calls every other night. Uses a different name every time he calls and makes about the same complaint every time. There is no Jays fan in Jays land more frustrated then this guy. He always tries to keep his composer for about the first 30 seconds before completely falling off the rails.

Yeah I've noted that guy before. His manner of speech is so recognizable I'm surprised the producer doesn't pick up on it. He hates AA pretty hard. "What can't we get that guy in Oakland or Tampa???"

Right... Cause Beane and Friedman are just dying to come and take over the Blue Jays...

I wanna try keeping a running tab on his calls and post them here. Last year he was hilarious.... sometimes he'd call and prentend he was a Yankees fan and didn't really care that much.... but by the end of the call he'd be pulling his hair out.

I like how he often compliments Wilner early on too, to buy himself more air time. LOL.

That guy is hilarious! I found it strange that Wilner agreed with the caller that AA's job would be at risk if the team finished in last place in 2014. I would think Wilner would hedge his bets & say it depends on injuries. Wouldn't Rogers let AA stay till the end of 2015, regardless of performance?

This here.... this is it. This is the issue.

So obviously Beane and/or Friedman may not be dying to come and take over the Blue Jays. That's the issue. That is everything.

So why are they not dying to take over the Blue Jays?? Because they hate Canada?? No. I don't think so.

It would be because of the upper management, the management level above AA. If AA was the problem then the fix would be simple. Get the Beest to put on the charm and get Beane/Friedman or that kind of talent over here. But here is the issue.

1. The Beest doesn't realize that these kind of people are really, really, good. He wouldn't recognize real good GM material.

2. Real good GM material would immediately recognize the Beest is someone to keep very, very, very far away from.

3. The Beest would demand that real good GM material "play nice" with his cronies... Keep the on base percentage below .320, I don't want to piss off Cito or Murph. My old friend "insert old drunk scout's name here" says that Japanese guy won't adjust to the majors... Don't bid to high on this Darvish fellow, will save the money for some good stuff next year.

4. The only people that would take the job are guys like AA... willing to sell out their core beliefs to please the Beest and get a dream job. It's a common theme. Wilner, Stoeten, AA all selling out what they really believe for "Dream Job".

Please the Beest and all that you desire shall be yours.

For whatever reason large-market teams have never heavily invested in their front office. Friedman, Beane, etc. are easily worth $10M+ per year, but nobody has ever decided to pay that. That's the obstacle, a lack of precedent.

AA is doing a good job at a reasonable price (Beeston's puppet, ass licker)

Posted
Pretty sure Friedman and Beane don't want to come because they're happy where they are. Beane turned down a nice offer from your beloved Red Sox, oh no he hates their management!

You guys are in a bit of a bubble and an echo chamber when it comes to how the rest of the world views the Blue Jays organization. I am not a red sox fan, just exposed to their media and fans. Also exposed to the Yankee world.

Blue Jays are viewed are sort of small minded, not to bright, greedy, kind of despicable people. Wasn't always this way. Pat Gillick is viewed as a great guy.

When there is something like the 2009 club house rebellion, the rest of baseball doesn't accept Beeston's version. That happened for a reason and people involved, coaches, players, who are all now elsewhere talk. If you listen closely around what other media says one senses a sort of vile vibe around the Blue Jays. Many expected their moves to fail and are happy about it... because they don't like the Blue Jays and they way they treat the good people in the game (Gillick, Farrell, Butterfield etc.).

Wilner will be very happy tonight. The Jays are guaranteed to finish no worse than last year with 73 wins.

Wilner's latest rant is that fans are not owed an apology for this year's performance.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/wilner-blue-jays-dont-owe-fans-an-apology/

Wilner is wrong. It would be classy for AA to talk to the fans on Sunday after the game. The fans came out in large numbers to support the team this year.

Wilner will be using this factoid throughout the offseason.

If the Jays win 1 of the next 2 games, they will have 74 wins which will technically be an improvement.

I find it annoying as a loyal fan who buys flexpack tickets each year, + merchandise + food + watches the game on Rogers TV etc to not expect a bit of courtesy from AA or whoever to say apologize & try to do better in 2014.

I am well aware that there are no legal guarantees that the team should win when I buy a ticket but from a customer service perspective, but it would be a nice gesture from the jays.
