SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'll see if someone local agrees first. I can but odds are I won't give a s*** after the Jays pick
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 OMG our MLB pitching is like so bad!! Lets get sum armzzzz *prevailing thought in the war room today* Why does it surprise me still that the Jays front office is filled with non-thinkers
SexyNewForum Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 We need a "Official draft thread" yeah if someone could make a thread with the updated list of 5-6 seemingly likeliest players the bluejays will draft (given mock draft sources) that would be sick. bring us right into the draft at 7
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Can someone explain to me why baseball doesnt just make hard signing bonuses for players? Either you sign for a specific X amount of dollars or you dont
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 If they pass on Meadows or Frazier to take Ball or Crawford I'm gonna be enraged. I think I would stop posting for a while if that happens.

JaysFanToTheEnd Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I bet they will pass on either one of them if they slip and pick someone that no one has even mentioned.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Sigh. Sometimes I wish I was paid to simply talk with no logical thought behind. To be fair, Sid is more of an entertainer than a knowledgeable sports guy and he's good at what he does. It's truly amazing that so little thought is put into this drafting hitters vs. pitchers debate. The information is very accessible and easily looked up. The conclusion is quite clear. So, I'll be surprised if Houston takes Appel or Gray...but I definitely wouldn't even be looking at Moran.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'm sure the reason is the MLBPA prefers it this way.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Predict what's your top 10 picks. Lets see who gets the closest. Mine is: (Astros)- Gray (Cubs)- Appel (Rox)- Bryant (Twins)- Stewart (Indians)- Moran (Marlins)- Shipley (Red Sox)- Frazier (Royals)- Bickford (Pirates)- McGuire (Jays)- Meadows
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Not sure if it's been posted, but there's a couple of wild rumors floating around. One via Peter Gammons says the Rockies might take Dominic Smith with the 3rd pick. While there other from Kiley McDaniel (I think) says the Marlins are considering Rob Kaminsky with the 6th pick as Loria has personally attended a few workouts with him recently. Take it with a grain of salt though. Could be just smoke screens.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Haven't been able to scout the draft at all this year, but I will say that I'm almost completely off high school bats. Give me college bats, athletes, and filthy arms. Obviously don't pass on a Mike Trout, though I'd have put him in the athlete category his draft year, but it just seems to be such a rare thing for High School bats to translate. Just too many level jumps needed for them, and the typical high school arm that they are generally going against is in a whole different (and inferior) galaxy compared to the arms they will have to face in the majors. If they even get there... Kris Bryant would have been nice to sign though.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Predict what's your top 10 picks. Lets see who gets the closest. ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 My dream draft: 10. Clint Frazier, RF 47. Riley Unroe, SS 83. Tom Milone, CF / Nick Longhi, 1B 115. Christian Arroyo, 2B I doubt we don't take a pitcher, but that's a lot of guys with a very good chance to hit.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 My prediction: (Astros)- Moran (Cubs)- Appel (Rox)- Bryant (Twins)- Stewart (Indians)-Gray (Marlins)- Shipley (Red Sox)- Meadows (Royals)- Ball (Pirates)- McGuire (Jays)- Frazier
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Scout.com's Mock Draft http://sbb.scout.com/2/1297610.html Pick 10 Toronto Blue Jays CF Austin MeadowsGrayson HS (GA) Player: Austin Meadows Height: 6-3 Weight: 220 Age (Draft Day): 18.09 Current Team: Grayson HS (GA) Position: OF Bats: L Throws: L ANALYSIS: Trey Ball is the target here and is expected to be the pick unless Frazier somehow slips this far. J.P. Crawford and Meadows are the secondary preferences and I think the Jays have Meadows ahead of Crawford, but this one is a close call.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 KLaw chat stuff: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/48183 Steve (California) Craziest rumor you are hearing right now? Klaw(2:03 PM) Nothing I haven't posted - Dominic Smith to Colorado was one, Phil Bickford to Toronto or Seattle was another. Bickford is an odd one, because some scouts adore him, and others want no part of him because he doesn't have a present average breaking ball. Jay (London) See anyone using a similar strategy to Blue Jays' last year? Over slot early and WAY under late Klaw (2:04 PM) Bunch of teams will. The new system makes that a very appealing strategy. Steve (California) Legend Peter Gammons just tweeted that Bickford to Royals is a done deal. Are you hearing the same thing? Klaw (2:12 PM) I am not. Heard the opposite a few hours ago. Doesn't make him wrong - I guess we could both be right, if Bickford dropped his price suddenly. Jim (Rhode Island ) I'm not sold on Stewart as a top ten pick. Aren't scouts worried about his control ? Klaw (2:16 PM) If he had plus control now, he'd go first overall. Almost every prospect has a question mark on him. He's a great athlete with four pitches, two plus, and a workable delivery. Guest (Neverland) Thoughts on 2 Canadians .. Any chance O'Neill sneaks into round #1, or Quantrill being snapped up by Jays? Klaw (2:28 PM) No chance, and doubtful given the Stanford commitment. Adam (LA) How realistic do you think the rumors about Smith to the Rockies are? If that happens what does that do to Bryant and Moran? Klaw (2:33 PM) Two sources told me last night that they're not taking him, although they like him a lot. Renan (NYC) Hey Keith, I know one of the reasons that you have Frazier below Meadows is his height (or lack thereof) but do you have the same concerns about Smith and Peterson, especially as future 1b? Or does the fact that they're likely to be at 1b mitigate that some? Klaw (2:55 PM) It's not height specifically but what that implies for future development and power. I prefer Smith's swing (mechanics and left-handedness) to the others'. Mike (Toronto) Are you more bearish on Beede than others? (your comment on his W/L record....) Klaw (3:02 PM) No, I just don't see any argument that he was top three in the country this year. Ben (Canada) Can you see either Frazier or Moran dropping to the Jays? Klaw (3:08 PM) Yes, actually a good chance one of them gets there. Ryan (Markham) Klaw - I hear the Jays have shown *no* interest in Clint Frazier. Do you think that is true, and if so, care to speculate on why that would be? Thank you Klaw (3:09 PM) I do, and I think there are a lot of reasons. Many people don't like the swing mechanically, he struggles with offspeed stuff, and he may end up a LF. He's not a lock - he's a very good prospect, but I hear readers treating him like he's the next Mike Trout, which he's not. tlheard (Cartwright, NL) Seems to be a 1/2 dozen realistic picks for the Jays at 10. Guessing they're going for best player available? Klaw (3:17 PM) I believe they take the best of Ball, Mcguire, Crawford still available. (Best in their view, that is.)

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Appel is a senior and considered the best pitcher in the draft by many. No way he slips. The Cubs will absolutely pay his demands. Hence why he isn't on my board.
