burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Was at the Bisons game last night and aside from the fact that Norris got rocked, Anthony Gose had an interesting game in right field. He throws one runner out at the plate, throws another out at second after a single with a laser and could have had a third ala Bautista on a sharp single if Wallace had been on the bag at first. Then he gets picked of first with the Bisons down 3 runs. If this guy could ever get his head in the game. With that arm, I would turn him back into a pitcher. On another note, I talked to AA the last time Norris pitched and since I had my AFL hat on he divulged that Nolin,Pompey and possibly Ozuna will be in Arizona...anxious to see Osuna. Nice post, good to hear from someone who was actually at the game. Not sure Gose would be a good pitcher as apparently his mechanics off the mound were awful and he has value as a platoon CF. Did AA say anything else when you talked to him?
spats Verified Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I didn't ask him anything else but have talked to him down in Spring Training. He is very approachable and loves to talk baseball especially if someone knows the system(minor leaguers). He was pretty busy watching Norris and had a few of his scouts and front office people around(La Cava), so I didn't want to bother him. I wanted to ask him about Barreto. As A side note, I talked to him just before the trade deadline when Sanchez was pitching for Buffalo and he promised me that he wouldn't trade Sanchez or Norris. He reminded me of that when he saw me at the next game, so blame me for the lack of trade activity..lol.

Do you think Norris is going to come up to the big leagues for September? (I hope he doesn't because I think there is no need to have him on the 40 man)

I would like to see Norris start next year in AAA and have him as depth when there's a key injury. Kinda like what we did with Stroman this year.

What Alex was eating?
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 What Alex was eating? Chicken Souvlaki, Lot's of tzatziki sauce, Dakos, Taraosalata's and a pile of pita bread. Not sure what he had for his main course though.
spats Verified Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Ha. Actually,he's lost a little weight but still not svelte. I think if the Jays were in it, Norris would have been called up but I don't see the need for it now.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Ang, any standouts from the DSL Jays this season? Very busy lately. A friend of me said to me that Lizardo is hitting well.

Just say your opinion on Castro, no need to be snarky.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Notice that he doesn't actually answer the question. He does that a lot. I know and I hate him for that. And when he does answer a question he has to make it sound like he is always right and has a very difficult time admitting he was wrong about someone.

Much more informed but similar s***** attitude.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 I think he is the most underrated prospect in the Org. No one really talks about him but he seems like he has a pretty good chance to be a Major Leaguer even though he doesn't have any star tools.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Wow rangers really live by that sink or swim motto when it comes to prospects. But a 17 year old with a 7.5% walk rate & 10.5 % strikeout rate tells me he has an advanced approach.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Carp would have been one of those pitchers that the saber crew would have written off without a second thought Why? He's really only had one bad season saber-wise.
43211234 Verified Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 The problem with Dwight Smith Jr. is that the consensus seems to be that he can't stick at CF but doesn't have the bat to be a regular in LF. There were rumours he was making the switch to 2B, where he'd become a nice prospect if he could play there.

Just because he doesn't hit 20 HR doesn't mean he can't be a MLB LF.

I mean he's putting up similar offensive stats as Shannon Stewart/Garret Anderson were in the minors at the same age, but with an even better OPS & slugging%. Edited August 27, 2014 by abola2121

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 AJ Jimenez is back in the lineup for Buffalo tonight. Hopefully we can see him in September.

No one really talks about him but he seems like he has a pretty good chance to be a Major Leaguer even though he doesn't have any star tools. He's always been on the radar because he has MLB caliber tools, this is just the 1st year he has put it together. In terms of Jays' prospects I have him around the 10th spot. If he moves to 2B, where I feel his tools play much better, than I think he'll get more attention. As The Dude said a little lower, doesn't have the bat for LF, may not be good enough to stick in CF at the MLB level.

It really depends on how his team is constructed. LF is a premium offensive position, you can afford to go with a guy like DSJ or SStewart if you have elite bats elsewhere. Definitely not a traditional LF'er and he doesn't have the arm for RF at the MLB level.
