KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Really wish the MiLB app showed all levels of minor league ball. Not just AA and AAA, the least interesting of the Jays minor system. There must be some legal issues there or something. Probably harder to get video feeds.

Save Dtieb Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Probably harder to get video feeds. The lack of video feeds I understand. But box scores, at least, would be nice.

OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Barreto had a walk off 2-run single for Bluefield last night. The early success of Boyd and Hollon coupled with the twilight signings of Brentz and Tellez have certainly made this draft grow on me.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Not signing Bickford was the right move. Oh I know that. Don't get me wrong. I'm just saying THIS draft would've been that much more successful. The Jays still did pretty well despite throwing away their first round pick.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 True that! Can't wait for 2014 draft Gareth Morgan and Alex Jackson are gonna look real nice in a Jays jersey.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Not signing Bickford was the right move. It will probably be 10 years before we can say that with any certainty. I don't think AA should have gone overslot for Bickford, I also don't think deferring picks is ever the best route. Not that it worked out poorly for the Jays, it's a deep draft this year and AA will have a big bonus pool to work with. Bickford has a special arm and could be a very good MLB pitcher down the road. Hollon and Bickford could end up as the two top HS pitchers from that class, might have been a haul.

In my opinion, at the current moment, it appears to be the correct move (or non-move, if that's how you roll). Don't forget about Brentz when mentioning top HS pitchers from this class. Really high on him too.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 + Jansen , + Greene + Murphy + King Kal + Dermody + Boyd if he wasn't mentioned.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Gareth Morgan and Alex Jackson are gonna look real nice in a Jays jersey. Morgan with hopefully our comp pick. Right now I want one of Sean Reid-Foley/Dylan Cease at 11 and Derek Hill/Michael Chavis with our other pick. I think you'll like Chavis. He's received comparisons to Javier Baez (dat bat speed) but he's much more athletic. He actually reminds me more of Lawrie.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I was going to ask this before but is there any reason why he hasn't been pitching of late? He pitched yesterday actually. They're kind of going slow with him I guess. He had some arm fatigue issues during his high school season.

Got anything, video, reports on Chavis? Position? I want Jackson with one pick, and one of Hill/Morgan/TouiI'mnotevengonnatryandspellit with our other pick. Lawrie/Baez sounds pretty damn nice too lol.

A lot can change obviously but I don't see Jackson getting to us. Touki might actually make it to us with so many guys rising up in the rankings. Here are a few reports I've read about Chavis. Jeff Sullivan @JSully12 – 3B Michael Chavis can absolutely mash… Also runs a sub 6.7 60 and has a 90+ mph arm across the infield Hit A HR in 5 different PG tourneys this summer. Stood out at PG WS, Showed very fast bat NUC Main. 6.68 and 90 IF at PG National. Strong compact athletic build. Right handed hitter, simple swing mechanics, spread stance, quiet load, very quick twitch hands, good hand path to the ball, very fast bat, swings hard and looks to drive the ball, explosive contact with big pull power, back spins the ball and puts it in the air for a long time, sees the ball and handles the barrel, very consistent performer. Underrated physical tools, 6.68 runner, has quick feet at third base, plenty of arm strength, can quicken up release and polish footwork but has all the tools to be a solid defender, also plays the outfield. Compares in many ways to Cubs prospect Javier Baez. Video and report here from the PG All-American Classic where he won the home run derby. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/michael-chavis-wins-the-rawlings-home-run-challenge-at-pg-all-american/ The Clemson commit from Sprayberry High, Marietta, Ga., is a toolsy infielder with above-average speed, one of the better infield arms in the class and a glove capable of making highlight reel plays.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hollon pitched well early today cruising through 3 innings without giving up a run. However he had some trouble in the 4th and 5th when he gave up 4 runs though. Finished with 4.1ip 4h 4r 2bb 5so. 4innings for a recently signed high school arm seems almost unheard of for the Jays. They're really not babying him are they. lol

imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Someone needs to do some charts for all these lower minors prospects heating up. How do you put charts in here anyways?
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
