GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Even Ethier could be interesting, since the Dodgers are apparently willing to eat half his contract. He'd be the third best option of the three, but eh, sure.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 He's not even worth half his contract though. You have to assume Navarro would be a part of any such trade.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 He'd be the third best option of the three, but eh, sure. I'd probably put it Craig (if healthy) > Ethier > Victorino
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I'd probably put it Craig (if healthy) > Ethier > Victorino Victorino > Craig (being realistic about his situation) >>> Ethier

He consistently put up 2.5 to 3 war prior to last year. I don't know if he'll return to that or not, but I think whoever gets him is going to be really happy.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Prediction: North is out, the other two are interested. I wouldn't move Lackey for Craig either. Lackey is still really good. Having said that, I would be open to moving an arm for him, depending on whom Dinger wants.

Having said that, I would be open to moving an arm for him, depending on whom Dinger wants. I wouldn't say he's really good. He's good enough, he's adequate. He's above replacement level but he's also been far worse in recent memory. He's 36 and probably looking at a 3.80 ERA/FIP and an OBPA over .300. The K/BB is solid.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I like Lackey too much. I appreciate the directness though Dinger.

I think Lackey is a borderline top 30 starter tbh. He was bad in St. Louis but was a total beast before that.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I would disagree with that, but you have to love St. Louis for any pitcher.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Would you want any of my guys for him? I'm not completely terrible.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Nelson and Tomlin would be interesting returns.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Outside the two guys who are obviously way more valuable than Craig, prob not.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Nelson and Tomlin would be interesting returns. Pomeranz moreso.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Pomeranz moreso. I'd probably take any of the three if I were inclined to move Craig. But I'm jaded from trying to move fat Craig for like 8 months and not even being able to land a Tanner Roark.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 If fatty Butler had OF as well it might help. Suddenly a new team is in play. This could get done quickly, although I'd like to see if FTD is in before I make a decision.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I think Lackey is a borderline top 30 starter tbh. He was bad in St. Louis but was a total beast before that. Lackey was fantastic in St. Louis. 74.0% F-Strike%, 11.1 SwStr%. Hughesque. I expect big things from him in 2015.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I'm not buying F-strike% as even close to a good enough reason to say someone was fantastic.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 I'm not buying F-strike% as even close to a good enough reason to say someone was fantastic. You should! Pitchers usually try to throw a strike on the first pitch so it's a good indicator of overall control. Pitch F/X era seasons with >90 innings (.44 R^2): http://i.imgur.com/rJaxILK.png And obviously SwStr% is a good indicator of strikeout ability.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Lackey was fantastic in St. Louis. -0.3 bWAR, 0.4 fWAR. Fantastic?

Pitch F/X era seasons with >90 innings: http://i.imgur.com/rJaxILK.png Obviously throwing a first-pitch strike is good lol, but that shows through in the results. Saying Lackey was fantastic because he threw a lot of first-pitch strikes is silly.

Saying Lackey was fantastic because he threw a lot of first-pitch strikes is silly. It's a matter of what you're measuring. A pitcher who pitches as Lackey did with the Cardinals will generally be very successful. He did give up runs and dingers though. If you're measuring that (via ERA/FIP), he was sub-fantastic.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Anyway... Dickey would be an interesting return. I don't know how Min will respond.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 "sub-fantastic" lol I own him in LOD though so if anyone wants the fantastic- ahem, GREAT PD STATS John Lackey, give me a ring!
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Miles Mikolas has a great spin rate on his curveball. He's fantastic!

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 You want Pomeranz? I do think he has potential but I'm looking for someone who's a better bet for heavy innings this year.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Miles Mikolas has a great spin rate on his curveball. He's fantastic! lol that correlates less with present and future success though. Would you consider Lackey's performance to be fantastic if he had a good xFIP? Or does the presence of HR/FB correction preclude the stat from being used in performance evaluation?
