Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I didn't want to say ceiling since it is a bit too low for my tastes, so I'm just projecting him to maintain what he's already done at minimum You should change your team name to BALCO Pham Team.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 You don't understand how humour works.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Took napoli. Can someone pm next? Looking after my daughter and have already been distracted once lol
torontofan Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Has anyone noticed the "profile" and "quick opinion" write ups on fangraphs for MLB players. Are those recently new or have I been completely oblivious for a while.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Just checked to see what you guys are talking about, that's neat. Edited February 17, 2016 by Spanky99
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 @Dinger and Cyborg Dinger, Cyborg is saying that the altitude or whatever s*** it is at Safeco is suppressing Seager's fly balls from leaving the yard. This is not accounted for by park factors in the same way that a fly ball hitter at Coors benefits more than the average hitter from Coors. They're being compared to the same run scoring environment (if I understand park factors correctly), but one player has a leg up (or down in Seager's case) on the other just due to the park factors being more of a proxy than anything. However, Cyborg, I think it would be interesting to look into if it would actually be that big a boost. I don't think 130 wRC+ guy is accurate. Theoretically, if fly balls are suppressed in Safeco, then pitchers would induce more fly balls on Seattle hitters. So in a neutral park, Seager would have more fly balls leave the yard, but fewer fly balls in total. however, if pitchers don't actually behave in the expected manner, then you would have something exploitable in a variety of ways. I don't know if my interpretation of park factors is right. I'm assuming it's just a player's runs compared to (above) what you would expect in the run scoring environment. Overall, not broken down into parts.
tafkasg Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 As always, fangraphs ftw Seattle’s climate offers two essentially two types of days in the summer – cool and humid or hot and dry. Humidity is highest in Seattle when its cooler, but as it warms up, the temperature gets further from the dew point. The recipe for a baseball to fly a long ways is hot and humid air, but that just doesn’t exist in Seattle. It’s either (kinda) hot or humid, but almost never both. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/whats-going-on-at-safeco-field/
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I remember reading that actually. This would apply to more than Safeco too I would think. Probably mostly just in extreme situations, but Coors, Arizona, AT/T, etc I assume would all have players mis-evaluated by wRC+ depending on their batted ball profile.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I haven't been on the board all day. Came on to post a joke about Bautista picking a Twitter battle with "PECOTA" but the Dinger vs. Boxy/Cyborg was better
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 I noticed them for the first time today too you're up!
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 for my next two gimme Bryan Shaw and Bud Norris. If speedy takes one of those, gimme Jordan Walden.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 you're up! Ok! I'll take hansel robles
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 That puts me up again, right?
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'll take Abraham Almonte
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 did you notify boxy? Ya, right after my pick
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'm on da bus so can someone pm the next guy as my mobile network tends to get a big s***** along my route Taking .970 OPS ceiling Mikie Mahtook
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'll be heavily rooting against Mahtook this year.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I'll be heavily rooting against Mahtook this year. That probably won't be necessary since he has no path to playing time. He's probably going to be ticketed for AAA.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 At the Mariners' annual FanFest event on Jan. 31, third basemen Kyle Seager was faced with a question he's likely been asked for years: Who is better, you or your little brother? And, apparently, Kyle couldn't help but give his most honest answer. "He's good, sorry," Seager responded to a cascade of laughs. "I'm sorry he's better; I'm trying, I promise." --- Case closed!
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 That probably won't be necessary since he has no path to playing time. He's probably going to be ticketed for AAA. Yeah. That's ultimately why I didn't keep him. Guy was insane in September though, he was crushing everything inside and hit some absolute bombs.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Yeah. That's ultimately why I didn't keep him. Guy was insane in September though, he was crushing everything inside and hit some absolute bombs. You know, the scouts never loved Mahtook, so his power outburst should raise eyebrows, but Boxy doesn't care about that. Boxy's keen statistical analysis has helped him uncover many a gem that prospectors have missed on, for example AJ Pollock.
