Nah, Dubas met with him yesterday trying to get a deal done, Dreger assumed he might not want back, seems he's right.

I mean they don't want him back for the price Campbell wants... And Campbell doesn't want to come back for the price they Leafs are offering. If he thinks he's gonna get 5.5 - 6 somewhere else then good on him. I wouldn't give him that for 5-6 years.

I hear you there, is that the term he was seeking? Damn, I hope this works out. Georgiev's an Avalanche, da fuq???

Wish list

- Dylan Strome as 2C (probably too expensive)

- Max Domi cheap 1 year “show me” deal starting on 3rd line

- Ilya Samsonov to back up and potentially overtake Murray.

- Sandin signs

- Engvall signs (if cheap)

In this pipe dream I imagine Jake Muzzin being moved to have around 12M cap space.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner

Tavares-Strome-Nylander

Robertson-Kerfoot-Domi

Anderson/Engvall-Kampf-Engvall/Simmonds

Brodie-Reilly

Giordano-Sandin

Liljegren-Holl

Murray

Samsonov

Gaudreau going to FA is a tough, tough blow to the Flames

I'd say, he's going to Jersey or Philly, apparently. Definitely an EC team.

Smart, IMO

Agreed. That's a great value for a guy that still produces like a borderline-elite player when healthy. Obviously the injury and age risk are factored into the term, but it's not too difficult to see that contract providing ample surplus value.

And if Malkin just breaks down completely, the contract isn't a crippler.

What do you think of Murray to the Buds?

I don't love it - Murray has been bad for a few seasons now. Whether or not that's primarily because of the teams in front of him or not, I don't know. I would trust that Dubas and Co. think he can regain his previous elite form, but I just don't share their optimism. Could he though? For sure.

I don't keep as up on hockey as I once did, so maybe there are some promising underlying metrics that suggest he can still be that true #1?

Yeah, Xpected numbers crush Campbell's, problem is health me thinks.

Getting paid some picks to try Murray at that rate for two years is an exponentially better gamble than paying starter's money to Campbell on a long term deal. Obviously can't say for sure what other options may have been available to them, but out of those two there's no comparison.

I feel like I've been dropped into an alternate reality where Campbell isn't a 30 year old career backup with one pro season where he started 40+ games. The insiders saying the Oilers will give him 5×5M?

I don't follow hockey much at all - certainly not advanced stats. You're saying the underlying advanced stats suggest Murray is way better than Campbell? What about Ilya Samsonov? His numbers don't look great to me? Am I missing something?

Age and upside on Samsonov, he’s had flashes of brilliance, was apparently good in playoffs. Sounds like he is coming to Toronto.

Love the Samsonov deal. Not fully proven but he is 55-22-8 career. Save % is a bit low but who knows. I’m willing to bet he starts more then Murray.

Murray and Samsanov is a really nice tandem.

You guys may not have liked the trade but Murray looks a lot better in a 1A 1B tandem right?

Like if you only need him for 41 games he could be awesome. Then in the playoffs you play the healthy or hot one.
