P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Monahan likely gets dealt soon in a cap-clearing move. Might have to include a player like Valimaki to get it done.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Kadri to the Flames. They actually look really good this year. When Gaudreau walked and Tkachuk indicated he wasn't resigning in Calgary I thought a rebuild was likely imminent. Fast forward several weeks later and the team might actually be improved compared to last season, that's quite the turn of events.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Hahaha... James Duffy account cracks me up...

He was great until that 2019-20 season. 7 years for Kadri, who turns 32 soon, coming off the only big scoring year of his career is super risky IMO.
JG34 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 I knew he was going there, everyone didn't think so. I thought he’d be a good fit too.

He's had a lot of surgeries over the years including several hip surgeries and a wrist surgery as well. He was never particularly quick/fleet of foot and the hip surgeries made him too slow to keep up, and the wrist problems largely robbed him of his best asset, which was a top notch quick fire wrist shot in the slot.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Looking like Carey Price is done for this year too, maybe his career... OUCH!!!
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Wait, was the Kadri deal 7/49? That's a pretty palatable AAV. I was afraid he'd sign for more than that.

AAV seems very reasonable but the length of the contract is a bit long as he'll be pretty old in the tooth the last few years.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Treliving has done a pretty excellent job in the offseason. Replaced Johnny and Tkachuk with Huberdeau and Kadri ... and got a damn fine defenseman plus a prospect and pick out of Florida. really well done

Meh, I think Kadri can age well into his mid-to-late thirties. A lot of veteran hockey players can still play at a high level above 35. As long as he doesn't have any ongoing injury issues, he'll be fine.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 What a crazy good game, Canada wins Gold in OT. Good job Boys!
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Leafs couldn’t take a look at Phil The Thrill for 1.5? Or maybe he declined?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Leafs couldn’t take a look at Phil The Thrill for 1.5? Or maybe he declined? Meh I think the price tag is pretty indicative of how little he has to offer at this point. Has always been pretty one dimensional but he's no longer overly prolific offensively. I don't think he'd be an improvement for the Leafs, at best you're getting very hollow production and no intangible value.

Would you rather spend your winters in Vegas or Toronto? As well, he knows how harsh the Toronto media and fans can be, so why put up with that ******** at his age. Vegas has a great chance at going deep into the Playoffs, better than the Leafs as well.
JG34 Verified Member Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Leafs couldn’t take a look at Phil The Thrill for 1.5? Or maybe he declined? Sandin needs to sign first, and there’s others at PTOs that could be more intriguing. Although I would’ve been happy having Phil come back for nostalgia.

Wat??? lmao... Phil the thrill was never coming here though, I'll give you that.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) Leafs couldn’t take a look at Phil The Thrill for 1.5? Or maybe he declined? Don't want him even at $1.5m. Not the right fit at this stage of his career. Edited August 26, 2022 by Krylian

Jay, the Leafs haven't made it past the first round since when exactly? 2003? Right now, any hockey team that makes the playoffs have a better chance at going further than the Leafs.

Every team that makes the playoffs has a shot. History is in the past for a reason. We remember it, but doesn't define who we are or what we do going forward.

The Knights are a darkhorse, that's if they even make the playoffs.
