It's crazy how basically everything Treliving has done has backfired:

 

- Klingberg was an unadulterated disaster

- Bertuzzi sucks

- Domi sucks

- Reaves really sucks

- the team's starting goalie is a 34-year old Martin Jones

 

I'll never understand why Shanahan though poaching him from the mess he made in Calgary was a good idea

 

Their defense and goaltending is a mess.

I thought Treliving was generally solid in Calgary until the ill fated Huberdeau long term deal which was signed before he ever played a game for the team. A lot of his free agent signings left something to be desired but he made a lot of pretty decent trades along the way. He had assembled a really solid team that was left in the lurch when Gaudreau left the team at the altar at the last minute and left for nothing in free agency. When Tkachuk asked out that would have been the perfect opportunity to blow things up and start over but that doesn't seem to be something that was allowed under the ownership group who would rather qualify for the playoffs no matter the chance to have success once the playoffs start. It's unfortunate that Sutter went completely off the rails last season as I think the team should have been a lot more competitive than they were given the talent on the roster.

 

Yeah, the GM job in Calgary is pretty much nothing but doing exactly what ownership tells you to do and then getting fired for it. I truly doubt Treliving had the autonomy he should have had. I know a GM doesnt operate with impunity and certain deals need to be approved by ownership, but when the ownership sides with the coach over the GM, his hands were basically tied.

What's wild about this? We've known this was coming for a long time haven't we? Most of these players suck. It looks like the legit stars from that team are all clean.

4 of them are NHL players, and all of them play professionally. That doesn't fall into a sucks tier, mate. Hart is a stud.

Yes - they are professionals, but none of them are stars. Carter Hart is a career 2.94 GGA, 0.906 SV% goalie. That isn't a 'stud'.

 

Cale Maker and Jordan Kyrou are star players from that roster. The accused are just role players IMO.

McLeod was kind of breaking out. Might have been on his way to a 20 goal season. He's playing a lot.

Dube had 45 points last year and probably only sucked this year because he can't focus.

 

Cal Foote sucks but he was a 1st rounder.

Comtois isn't one of the five, he's legitimately out of the league based on merit. Couldn't stay in the lineup on a dogshit Ducks club last year, team was pretty public about calling him out for work ethic issues.

He was a late 2nd round pick. I think most of them fail to have long, productive NHL careers.

He's had a weird trajectory. Was considered a top 5-10 guy heading into his draft year, then had a disappointing season and went late 2nd round. Rebounded the next year and was again tracking as a top prospect, was given the short NHL trial to start his age 19 season. Led the Ducks in scoring in the pandemic shortened 2020-21 season while still just 21 YO. In the two seasons to follow, he found no consistency and looked visibly out of shape. Completely fell off from looking like a legit young top six winger
