Laika Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Why wouldn’t the Sens just trade down and use the extra picks for even more reaches? Because they are absolutely f***ing retarded. That's the whole story.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 (edited) Ottawa wrapped up the draft by taking Chandler Romeo, a 6'5 Dman out of Ontario Jr. B, in the 7th round. *golf claps* Edited July 24, 2021 by King

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 Looks as though the Leafs have indeed let Freddy walk...
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 62% of sens fans on hfboards think Ottawa's draft was good or excellent. Only 8% think it was ugly.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 Junior B?! Lmao He was probably more surprised to get drafted than the rest of us are that the Sens drafted him. To clarify, he had a standout 16 year old season playing Junior B and Junior A, then had signed to play with the OHL Hamilton Bulldogs before the season was cancelled.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 Regarding the Sens, they have made a full highlight reel of hilarious blunders, but I actually would say they have drafted really well in recent years. Scouting might be the only department Eugene allows them to spend on. I just don't think some of these consolidated rankings mean a whole heck of a lot this year, these amateur independent scouts were working with a fraction of the information and just flat out didn't see a lot of these kids at all, OHL especially.

How could you say that? They haven't drafted anyone worth a damn since Thomas Chabot besides Stutzle and Tkachuk, who were top 5 gimmes. They have whiffed on almost all of their high picks in the last decade. 2011 - Zibanajed, Stefan Noesen, Matt Puempel, Shane Prince 2012 - Cody Ceci 2013 - Curtis Lazar 2014 - Andreas Englund 2015 - Chabot, White, Gabriel Gagne, Chlapik 2016 - Logan Brown, Jonathen Dahlen 2017 - Shane Bowers, Alex Formenton 2018 - Brady Tkachuk, Jacob Bernard Docker, Jonny Tychonik 2019 - Lassi Thomson, Shane Pinto 2020 - Tim Stutzle, Jake Sanderson, Ridly Greg, Roby Jarventie, Tyler Kleven, Egor Sokolov 2021 - Tyler Boucher, Ostapchuk, Roger Pretty much everyone here is garbage outside of them picking at the very top of the draft (Tkachuk and Stuetzle). I mean you can definitely give them credit for some picks but I would not go as far to say they have drafted well. They have been drafting big lugs these last two years who probably aren't good at hockey, which we have years of evidence to suggest not to do. Edited July 25, 2021 by King

Tkachuk was a gem of the pick and will be their heart and soul for years to come. IIRC that pick was a bit divisive as some felt he didn't have top 5 type skill. Obviously nailed the Stutzle pick as well, I think credit is still due for making proper use of your early picks. I was more referring to the massive steals of Chabot and Batherson, both some of the best value of their draft. TBH I forgot Norris wasn't their pick. Most feel Pinto is looking to a real coup right now as well
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 2020 pick was just BPA and it was very clear cut. IIRC most outlets had Tkachuk in the top 4 so he was also BPA, although it wasn't as clear. I think he was ranked like 7th by some places. They get a bit of credit for not f***ing up either pick and perhaps an extra point for picking Tkachuk but hard to give them a lot of credit. It's like Toronto picking Austin Martin.

And one of the biggest homeruns on this list was traded with a 2nd round pick for Derek Brassard.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Garland extended 5 years @ 4.95. Very nice for Vancouver. Buchnevich gets 4 years @ 5.8. Chris Drury is very, very stupid.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 What's up with this Fleury trade by Vegas? Did they f*** up? They desperately needed to open up cap space. Just opened 7 million.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 They desperately needed to open up cap space. Just opened 7 million. Didn't seem like they got much in return though. Or is Fleury simply not worth much at his price?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 There's talk that Fleury may retire.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Didn't seem like they got much in return though. Or is Fleury simply not worth much at his price? I heard that Chicago was one of the only teams that could take on his full salary / cap hit.....so I doubt the had much value at all on the trade market. Also heard Fleury heard about the trade via twitter so LV did him dirty (or he was ignoring his phone all day)
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 This seems like a no brainer for Vegas
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Help me understand the Ovy deal. Greatest goal scorer ever even if he didn't break Gretzkys record, which he will. He will draw eyes for that, but with the cap 9.5 AAV through year 40 seems insane. At least the last two years. Same type of deal that has plagued the Black Hawks.

Maybe they made is 5/48 instead of 4/48 to lower the cap hit?

Doesn't he need like 33 goals a season for his whole deal to reach Gretz? I know he's a beast, but I wouldn't be certain of this in his ages 36 - 40 seasons.

Still an elite scorer. Father time isn't his friend though. The Nelson Cruz of hockey?
