Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 The Toronto Maple Leafs do not have enough salary cap room to recall a goaltender to back up Jack Campbell on Saturday night according to Chris Johnston. That's pretty sad for this early in the season as the Maple Leafs lost goaltender Petr Mrazek to a groin injury Thursday. Johnston writes that the Maple Leafs will try to sign University of Toronto goaltender Alex Bishop to an amateur contract and he will be the backup. Aahhhh, the soap opera that surrounds the Maple Leafs has another episode tonight. What a f***ing embarrassment.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 Sign the zamboni driver. He already has a track record of being able to beat an NHL team.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 How can Toronto be that close to the cap, to not be able to call up Hutchinson on min. salary? I mean, wow, that was the move I was expecting.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 So they're rostering an unpaid guy on a PTO because they don't have the cap space to bring up their league min AHL backup? This shouldn't even be allowed. Get under the cap if you want to roster a team.

Seems like he’s getting $0. Probably a few signed jerseys or something. It’s crazy that the PA allows players to sit on the bench as part of the official 20-man on a volunteer basis.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2021 Posted October 16, 2021 I typically don't root for players to get hurt but I would love nothing more to see an unpaid University goalie in this game.

I think I remember a university goalie backing up for the Canucks once or twice. In one of the games the goalie got hurt. The poor university guy looked like he was nearly having a panic attack. He didn't have to come in though.
