reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Nobody can narrowly frame a problem like you Pat Tabler Fan. We can agree to disagree, no need to be a jackass. Unfortunately you take pleasure in telling people off on the internet, did you also think Mike Trout should have won MVP last year despite a triple crown by MCab?
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Worse GM: AA or Nonis? I think the term of the contract is too long but they are the Leafs and have very deep pockets. They can just buy him out when they think he's gone too downhill which makes the CBA pretty funny. Personally I think he's worth 5.25 for the next few seasons, which is why I'm pretty happy as a Leafs fan.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Buyouts will still count against the cap though. That's an issue for cap teams like the Leafs. Right there's no compliance buyouts after next year (I think), but he's not clogging up roster space in years 6-7 when he's too old which still has value, so they only have to be "under the cap" for about 2 years if he declines badly. I don't think it's too bad, especially considering it's many years down the road.

imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Getting Bobby Ryan is a good thing for them. It is for sure. It's just Alfie would have never left Ottawa for another team, everyone in Ottawa thought that would never ever happen and it did. Just the way Corvo left last time in bad terms complaining about fans and media in Ottawa. He was the last person I would have thought Ottawa would sign to be the RD on PP. I know its a bargain for 1 year 900k..
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Turns out the Leafs weren't the only crazy ones going after Clarkson. The Oilers actually offered him more money but he turned it down to come to Toronto. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/report-oilers-outbid-leafs-for-clarkson/

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Like Russia cares. What has the NHL ever done for the KHL? Besides poaching it's best players for two decades now.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 He hasn't said anything about playing in the KHL, has he? It's not like he needs the money.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Is it even legal for him to play? I find it highly unlikely the NHL would be able to block Kovalchuck from playing in the KHL if he so chose. Any non compete clauses in there would be dubious at best.
Nox Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 What a can of worms. If he does play, that's a terrible precedent. Yah, it would be a total s*** show. Would not be shocked at all if he does play in the K next year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 All things considered, Kovie is probably doing NJ a massive favour though.
Frag Verified Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 All things considered, Kovie is probably doing NJ a massive favour though. NJ has to give up a draft pick next year that they lost as a result of cap circumvention involved while signing Kovie, when they could have given it up in 2012 when it was the 29th overall pick, and Kovie leaves the year before that season begins. LOL
Frag Verified Member Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 What a can of worms. If he does play, that's a terrible precedent. It will probably give teams even less incentive to draft Russian players now as a result of this. If Kovalchuk is leaving for the KHL (if he does), despite the contract he had with NJ, then how the hell do you expect other Russian players who aren't paid as much or aren't as talented as Kovie to stay?

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Kovalchuck officially signs with a KHL team. $ not announced. 4 year deal. http://bit.ly/1bgnFU3 Wow his old team mates are pissed, huh?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Looks like Kovalchuk is already planning his NHL comeback.... He says he'd like to return after 3 years in Russia. Seems like something is missing from the story. Maybe someone is his family is sick and he wants to play in Russia to be close to them and home. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/report-ilya-kovalchuks-sister-says-he-wants-to-return-to-the-nhl-in-three-years/
Frag Verified Member Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 New study: Rinne is really f***ing good at controlling rebounds, but he's probably more the exception rather than the norm. Also, Reimer's rebound control was possibly 2nd best behind only Rinne in the past 3 seasons, though he wasn't anywhere close to Rinne (19.8 rGAA vs. 8.7 rGAA). His rebound rate also worsens each season, possibly due to random noise, poorer play, poorer system, or a combination. Eric T gets into a decent discussion with the author in the comment section.
