Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Ex-Mariners Manager Eric Wedge speaks out on dysfunction in Seattle. Very interesting read. Sour grapes? Or legitimate look at how Jack Z and company are running things out west? It's quite obvious something isn't quite right in Seattle. Say what you want about AA but he has never committed this team to a franchise crippling contract and has gotten us out of the Wells contract.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Blengino, who was working for the Milwaukee Brewers with Zduriencik at the time, said he authored virtually the entire job application package Zduriencik gave the Mariners in 2008, depicting a dual-threat candidate melding traditional scouting with advanced statistical analysis. Blengino said he prepared the package because he was versed in the hot trend of using advanced stats for team decisions. “Jack portrayed himself as a scouting/stats hybrid because that’s what he needed to get the job,” Blengino said. “But Jack never has understood one iota about statistical analysis. To this day, he evaluates hitters by homers, RBI and batting average and pitchers by wins and ERA. Statistical analysis was foreign to him. But he knew he needed it to get in the door.” The Seattle Times obtained a copy of the package, which talks of rebuilding with minimal pain through shrewd drafts, undervalued free agents and a “vast pipeline of young, homegrown star-caliber talent.” Advanced stats charts ranked every major-leaguer and top minor-leaguers, while computer spreadsheets depicted each team’s positional depth and payroll commitments. Wow. Just, wow.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 AA should call up Jack Z and try to steal some of their young pitching. Ackley please. Another guy that I think could be a decent starter is Ramirez. He seems to pitch well in the PCL, he's got decent stuff, but really good command, if I remember correctly.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Wow. Just, wow. "Aw, f*** it! Just sign Cano. We'll figure out the rest later" Right??

He said the GM also dismissed the importance of evaluating players within the context of their contract values. LMFAO. I wonder how many more GMs are like this. There's got to be at least a couple more.

Jays Verified Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 LMFAO. I wonder how many more GMs are like this. There's got to be at least a couple more. Everytime I see a Fister or Yunel traded for nothing, I think, "that GM is just another Jack Z" There's a lot like them out there.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 It doesn't take an expert to see that the Yankees are going to be a good team this year Unless it's like last season when half their geriatric lineup spends significant time on the DL.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Bowden Orioles are in on Andre Ethier, Raul Ibanez and not in Morales or Tanaka if posted

Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Nelson Cruz is one of the top power bats remaining on the market. Here are Monday's rumors pertaining to the longtime Ranger... The Orioles met with Cruz's agents at the Wasserman Media Group today, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). According to Rosenthal, the Rangers and Mariners also remain as possibilities for Cruz.

What is Jack Z. waiting for?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 ******** rumor unless lind is traded Only thing is I see LoMo as more of a LHB bench option. I don't think he is suited for a everyday role in our division but he would look good coming off the bench.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I'm now thinking Cruz will play in Texas. Choo to the Mariners?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Logan Morrison appears to be on the move, destination unknown. Worth a thread? LoMo for Sierra make a lot of sense, then trade LoMO for hard-thrower reliever. Right?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 3:01pm: Peter Gammons noted on the MLB Network's broadcast that the Mariners have been in on Colon from the beginning and mentioned the Blue Jays as a possibility as well. Probably already discussed but FFS sign this fat man Alex.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 6:12pm: There are 12 teams in the mix for Trumbo, according to Heyman (Twitter link), who suggests that there could be a fit with the Diamondbacks. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports (via Twitter) that the Angels aren't interested in trading Trumbo for Tyler Skaggs straight up, though that doesn't necessarily preclude a deal involving more players.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I wouldn't mind LoMO as a 1B or DH if the Jays planned on trading Adam Lind. LoMo could get on-base at a decent clip and does have some untapped potential. I think he could hit 20-25 HR's playing half his games at the Rogers Centre. He'd be a good buy low candidate.

I could likely see AA in on Colon if he is only demanding a 1-2 year deal since AA publicly stated that the Jays won't be in on any of the big FA starters like Garza, Ubaldo, Santana (well he's hinted at that).
