kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I wouldn't mind signing either Halladay or Oswalt as projects. Despite their age, both obviously have tremendous upside and probably won't cost much. If the Jays signed Halladay, and he made a major league start at home, think it would be a sellout?

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 If the Jays signed Halladay, and he made a major league start at home, think it would be a sellout? Easily. I still remember the first time Burnett came back to Toronto with the Yankees and faced off against Halladay. Was a major sellout. Me and my friends had to wait outside until the fourth inning just to get in, and we left for the Stadium at 4:30. We were in the 500s and I still remember it being the most hilarious game I ever went to. Some guy had a sign in the shape of a giant penis that said "A-Rod" on it (have no idea how he got it into the stadium), and the guys in the row behind me kept throwing s*** at the guys in the row in front of me because they were smoking. The guys in the row in front of us then turned around and said "What the f*** is your problem?" and the guys behind started shouting "If that isn't weed, put that s*** out!" and "You want to know how I got this? -motions fist with a cast around it-" The guys in front turned around and sat back down, lmao.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Paul Konerko going to play another year for White Sox So much for my preferred 4th OF/DH platoon option Guess I knew there was pretty much no chance.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yeah I don't think there was any chance in hell Konerko would join any team other than the White Sox. Which is a pity since I love Konerko and the White Sox are probably my least favorite team.

Which is a pity since I love Konerko and the White Sox are probably my least favorite team. Plus he and Mark Buerhle are BFF's. And this is a better team. Thought that might be a SLIGHT draw. But he pretty much said after the season he'd play for Chi or retire.
Jays Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 white sox taking Konerko back? At this point they should pick up JPA and go for the #1 pick. Imagine the White sox telling JPA they want him because they think he can help them achieve the worst record in baseball.

MLBTR: Franchise icon Paul Konerko will return to the White Sox for a 16th season. The White Sox have officially announced the signing of Konerko to a one-year contract. The LSW Baseball client will reportedly receive a $2.5MM guarantee, though $1MM of that amount will be deferred to 2021.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 It has been reported by Morosi that the Mariners have already topped the Yanks bid for Cano. Don't know how reliable that is.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 If that $160-175M figure (for the Yankees) is correct, and the Mariners know it, maybe they went up to $180-190M. Would Cano take $27M AAV?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Morosi is a moron but he doesn't make stuff up. The Yankees may now have to stop playing hardball and pay up. Hard to say if they will. They seem very admit that they are going to get under the luxury tax mark and with them still needing Pitching and with the Jacoby deal I don't see them making a huge push unless they are just full of s***.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 How many MLB teams are ok with this?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 How many MLB teams are ok with this? Certainly explains why the Yankees are spending elsewhere.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 s***, I could even see Loria ponying up $20M
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 That's a huge game changer right there. I see a lot of teams willing to pony up 20mil. Then what happens does the team just choose which bid they want to accept??
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Then what happens does the team just choose which bid they want to accept?? It goes to the team with the lowest winning percentage that year.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 It goes to the team with the lowest winning percentage that year. Well we are not that far away from the bottom of the chain lol,
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Well we are not that far away from the bottom of the chain lol, True, but at least one of them would bid the max.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Well we are not that far away from the bottom of the chain lol, Go for it Alex. If the posting fee is only 20mil? If it falls to you DO it.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 True, but at least one of them would bid the max. Exactly I don't see any reason why the Astros would not go after him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 It gives almost all the control to the player 20 teams will post 20M then he gets to pick which team he negotiates with Way different than how Darvish came over

The player being bid on has no say in the matter.

The posting cap means that lower income teams won't be 'priced out' of bidding for high profile players. I wonder if record will play into it at all.

kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Seems to be confusion all around. From MLBTR: "There are conflicting reports on how the team would be selected, as Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times wrote this week that the posted player would be allowed to select from the teams that tie for highest bid."
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Go for it Alex. If the posting fee is only 20mil? If it falls to you DO it. He might deliberate and "due diligence" and "balls in the air" till past the posting deadline =( In the end, he will like the player at a certain value that will be below where everyone else values him.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 We're not getting Tanaka, so it's a moot point.
