Wow, I didn't realize just how little money the Mariners have tied up this year right now. King Felix is taking up like 2/3 of their total team salary.

I don't see why the Mariners would be in on Cano. They have no 1B, no DH, don't have a single average OF, have big question at C in Zunino, and have nothing but questions in the rotation after Felix and Kuma.

He really is terrible. Five seasons on the job, and the team is no further ahead than it was when he started. Outside of signing Iwakuma he's added nothing of value to the team that didn't come via the draft.

 

He's probably the only guy in baseball who thought that a strategy that consisted of putting average hitting DH only players all over the field would have any chance of working.

Yup. Lots of great young talent in their farm.. and with that new tv deal lots of $$$. I'm really expecting a big off season from them.. so far quiet. I expect at least one or two big bat signings and a move for another starter soon. Cruz, Choo, Granderson?

I think we should pick up Ryan Webb. He had a projected 1.5M arb salary and got non-tendered from the Marlins, so it shouldn't cost anything to pick him up. He's quietly been a very decent reliever over the past four seasons and he's only 27. He could be an asset in the climbing relief market, or he could replace one of the guys that the Jays may inevitably trade. With the Jays recent success with relievers lately, seems like a perfect fit.

Wait, what the hell? Roy Halladay is a free agent? I know he was pretty bad when he came back last year but why hasn't there been anything said about him? The last Halladay-related piece on MLBTR was posted a month ago on November 11. I didn't even know he was an FA until now.

Should be more on him. Was awesome, then had shoulder problems. Had surgery to fix those problems though, only problem was he tried to come back too fast so arm/results weren't there. Shut down for the rest of the year. Should be fully healed now and would be a good pitcher imo if he can even throw 88-90. I would definitely take a shot.

 

Oh, also found another article on him talking about a health issue, one that his father had. Didn't sound like a good situation, he had been sick a bunch of starts, sweating bullets. Apparently a rare problem but now he knows he has it so can probably control it.

 

However if he felt good I would expect him to be throwing for teams or something. That he hasn't been (or we haven't heard) is maybe a bad sign?

I wouldn't mind signing either Halladay or Oswalt as projects. Despite their age, both obviously have tremendous upside and probably won't cost much.
