That was years ago wasn't it?

I was going to say...I think that was before he signed his current deal which was 2 years/$40 million. There is no way the Giants offered Lincecum that contract last season or this season lol.

When was that? If he rejected that this season, he's foolish.

Tim Lincecum rejects Giants’ $100 million dollar offer

[ 1 ] Comment

Take this with a grain of salt. After all, it’s coming from CBS Sports, the network that reported Joe Paterno’s death—while he was still alive.

According to Jon Heyman, ace pitcher Tim Lincecum recently rejected a five-year contract offer by the San Francisco Giants for $100 million dollars:

The Giants appear to be tens of millions apart on a long deal with Lincecum after he rebuffed their offer for five years and nine figures and he countered much higher than that. It is thought Lincecum seeks a deal for seven or eight years but would be content to do a one- or two-year contract if no megadeal can be accomplished now.

In his article, which was curiously posted during the San Francisco 49ers-New York Giants NFC Championship game Sunday, Heyman went on to write:

Lincecum, who has so far gone year to year (in arbitration), seems more likely to wind up with a two-year deal now rather than sign a contract into his free-agent years.

Timmy will be eligible for free agency in 2014.

When the two sides submitted their arbitration figures last week, the Giants offered $17 million dollars for 2012; Lincecum countered with $21.5 million dollars.

A five-year, $100 million deal would pay the two-time Cy Young award winner $20 million a year (average), or $3 million dollars a year more than the Giants’ offer last week and only $1.5 million short of Lincecum’s request.

If Heyman’s report is accurate, it would appear to me that the Freak is holding out for every last penny he can get.

January 2012

So it was before his disastrous 2012 season which I was trying to say lol

He was still pretty decent in 2011 despite the warning signs of a slight decline with his higher BB/9 rates, and lower K/9 and FB velocity. Though 2012 and 2013 happened which definitely hurt his value big time lol. I'm sure if he was a FA after 2011, he'd get a 7-year-deal worth $150 million from a team. Right now, I don't think he gets more than a 2-3 year deal on the open market unless a team like the Yankees or Phillies act irrational and panic. He pitched better this season however for teams to restore some faith in him, though he's not the same pitcher who won back-to-back Cy Young awards. He won't come nowhere close to $100 million this offseason.

The Rays traveled to Toronto riding high after a four-game sweep of the Orioles at Tropicana Field followed by a three-game sweep of the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

"I'm just surprised," Maddon said. "I'm never disappointed in our guys. More surprised based on how well we've been doing. Happ pitched well, and we've faced two good pitchers the past two days. Dickey's not bad, he won the Cy Young last year. And Happ really threw the ball well today. So from that respect, we have faced good pitching. You have to give them credit for that, too. But I'm never disappointed in our guys."

Maddon put Saturday's loss into perspective.

"Listen, we've just come off this wonderful run and all of a sudden we've had two very difficult games," Maddon said. "I think a lot of it's been based on their pitching. We just have not been able to break through on their pitching."

Maddon is never one to hype any single game on the Rays' schedule. Sunday's 162nd game of the season is different, though, as Maddon acknowledged the obvious.

"Tomorrow's a relatively big game, yeah," said Maddon with a smile.

It's crazy how much more he got than Bourn and Swisher. Choo and Ellsbury are going to cash in.

That's mainly because Cleveland is smart, Swisher got openly criticized a lot iirc, and Bourn had a comp pick attached which is really important to remember.

Mets are gonna give one of those two a s*** ton.

Pence is really good, I think this is a fair deal. His 5.3 WAR this year is only 0.1 less than Choo and 0.4 less than Ellsbury - it sets the market for those two more than it raises the bar. He's also been very consistent, never recording a below-average year at the plate. There's a very good chance that he lives up this deal, although there probably won't be much surplus value.

This is essentially my opinion on the deal as well, Pence is really underrated imo.

And I believed Choo would get 5/15 ,maybe 5/15.5 but looks like the Giants just set a new threshold .

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with Choo at over 15M anyway, and I feel we have bigger needs in the off-season anyhow, so I think I consider that good news.

That's like a 1.5 win player. No reason to not sign Choo at 15m.

Yeah, I don't agree with some of the WAR valuations people place around here (I think they're waaaay too high). I see Choo as a 3 war player right now, and consider that to be worth around 15M (5M / WAR). On top of that, I don't think he's going to age well, and would be shocked if he averages more than 2 - 2.5 WAR over his contract term.

I agree with you. He'll be 32 in July and has battled both injury and poor performance recently. I'm not convinced a $100 million deal is going to look very good in a few years.

I,m very convinced he won't be worth 20 mil at age 35 let alone the rest of the deal .

And never seems to get hurt. Saw on Twitter he's missed like 26 games in 5 years or something.

The Phillies' pitching staff, once one of the game's best, may require an overhaul, Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer writes. The club has used ten starters this season, which is the major league average, according to Gelb. However, stats such as the team's 4.29 ERA, good for second-to-last in the NL, indicate an inability to cope with even "an average amount of uncertainty" in the rotation. "Long guys, swing men, depth in the bullpen and depth in the triple-A level are a need," manager Ryne Sandberg commented. "That is very evident right now." More Sunday morning Phillies links:

While Gelb highlights uncertainty in the rotation as a prime contributor to the Phillies' disappointing 2013 campaign, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. says the club plans to tender Kyle Kendrick a contract in the offseason, meaning that four of the team's five rotation slots may already be filled. If Kendrick returns to the rotation, he and Cuban import Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez would likely slide in behind Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels. "I don't know why people are asking about that," Amaro said of speculation on whether Kendrick will be tendered a contract, according to an article by Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. "We will."

There appears to be mutual interest in catcher Carlos Ruiz returning to the club next year, according to Zolecki's piece. "I think mutually we would like to continue the relationship," Amaro said. "At some point we'll get together, negotiate, and see where it goes." Ruiz says he's happy in Philadelphia, but added that he plans to test the market if a deal isn't done before the World Series.

They could start the tear down by giving us Hamels and Lee :D

The haul they could get for Lee and Hamels would be impressive, despite the heavy contracts

Git R Done, AA. We need. Outbid Amaro Jr. just this once. And do it swiftly. Like a ninja. Before people stop believing that you are one.

I have to say - AA nabbing Ruiz on a nice free agent contract before the end of October would go a long way to satisfying me that he understands the problems with this team and that he has the support/money to give us a shot next year.

Getting Kazmir would be great, but we also need to try to get the new Kazmir/Kluber. Pitchers exhibit massive variation in their performance, so if you get enough lottery tickets some of them will work out, and that's what Cleveland has banked on with their rotation. The Cubs have done the same with acquiring Wood, Feldman, CarlosV, and now Arrieta. All of them had intriguing skillsets and a chance to break out. Feldman and Wood did.

Kazmir doesn't fit in our team; Everything we touch turns to s*** lately. The Blue Jays organization need to make changes (front office, trainers and coaches).
